Played Oyster Bay with LeftyGar.
Conditions are as follows:
Tees - Didn't really notice. That's probably a good thing. Grass was fine.
Fairways - A little shaggy but firm in most spots, so there was a little bit of roll. Fine enough to hit from. Winter rules is a good idea.
Rough - Not bad. Starting the turn from green to brown in many spots. There are a lot exposed tree roots around the rough/woods edges and near enough to some bunkers.
Bunkers - OK. One was kind of a mess but the rest were fine. I did notice a lack of rakes. They need a few more in some places.
Greens - Pretty good. Not the best looking, but they rolled well and were quicker than expected. Somewhere in the 9 range.
Cart Paths - Almost a right-of-passage at this point. Survive and get a free T shirt.
Pace of play was good. LeftyGar and I were a twosome. We caught the groups ahead of us after some holes but overall the pace wasn't too bad. Absolutely gorgeous day. Cool in the morning and warming up throughout the day in bright sunshine and a little wind along the marsh.
Oyster Bay is not pristine, but if you have a PassPort card or one of the local cards, the value is good. Good to very good greens is my main issue with any course. I was satisfied with OB's. The design is fantastic. Perhaps one day I'll see it in top shape...
Enjoyed our day there, course was much better in terms of conditioning then the last time I was there, would not hesitate to go back, in fact playing again next Tuesday.
Too bad Legends does not provide OB the conditioning like their
other 4 courses.
It must have something to do with OB being a leased course.

Good to see Oyster Bay is in decent shape after a few down years. Great layout and I love golfing in that area of the Carolinas.
Thanks for reporting PK

Art, it has been 3 years since I last played OB, I have to say it was 100% better this year, fairways although still thinnish in spots was still much nicer then before. On hole 6 the short Par 3 they are building new tees of the the left of the older tee area. Traps are improving but still require attention and the greens that were once quite brown and muddy looking in many areas has gone making the putting on those holes much nicer. The ball now rolls rather then slides as it did before. It looks like the new Supt. they hired a few years back is doing a better then decent job, IMO it will get better for OB in the future.
@leftygar1
Do you think the new tees on the OB #6 par 3 are a result of the
tree branches blocking the right side on the green?
Hasn't there been comments in the past that courses in that area
have a problem being allowed to cut down trees?

From what I saw the new tees being built on hole 6 might be being done to allow more options for hitting your tee shot, use the upper tees for a while, then go to the lower ones to let the upper one regrow, similar to hole 5 on the Parklands. Will post a pic once we replay on Tuesday. As for cutting down trees that could be an HOA issue, not sure.
Thanks @polekat914 for reporting!
I'm glad to read that OB is in good condition overall, despite the cart paths!
Just fasten your seat belt! 😉

Worst cart paths I've driven in Myrtle area were Carolina National (about 7 years ago) and more recently that lil course on the east side of 17 in NMB before entering Little River .
Eastport ??

@jw11 I guess you're spot on when you're saying Eastport! 😉
P. S. : never had the "opportunity" to play there yet.

thanks for the update on a course I haven't had the pleasure to play.

Thanks for the report. It's always one of our favourites, not condition wise but for the layout. Had my best MB round there several years ago so that factors in as well
