8 of us arrived in North Myrtle yesterday afternoon from 5 states. First round was today at Sea Trail Byrd.  Course conditions were poor IMHO.  Tees were ok, greens were fine but slow.  Fairways were disappointing and very hard and tight.  Ruffs were bare dirt and very little grass.  Bunkers needed maintenance as it looked like they had a lot of footprints that looked old.  Good clubhouse and staff.

Given our interest in playing only upscale courses on this trip we will not be playing here again.

On to Barefoot - Love tommorow.

I played ST Byrd last year after the renovation.   The greens were good, along with some new bunkering.
I don't expect Sea Trail to be rated premium by golfers.
Their new lodging + restaurant might be good, but I don't know.

Thanks!

The Grand Strand is suffering from severe drought conditions.

I heard they are 9" short of rain this year.

Day 2:  Barefoot Love ten times better than Sea Trails Byrd.  Lush tees and fairways.  Greens very thick but slow.  Staff good, pop 4.25.  Biggest drive range in the world, 30 acres.  If there is a water shortage it did not show.

tomorow is CALEDONIA.

Calidonia!  What can I say?  The only thing wrong with this course is POP.  5.25 is just too long.  Tees = good, fairways, greens great.  Greens were very fast for what are typically on the slower side. Staff, good and plenty helpful.

BUNKERS were deep with plenty of sand, but unrated which is the golfers fault.  Perfect weather too.  Dinner at Mathew’s where the stuffed drum was special.

on to tidewater as the week flys by.

Tidewater today.  Conditions were excellent as usual.  Good staff.  Greens were true and running about 10.  No complaints from us.  On to Barefoot Dye at 7:15!

Sorry to hear Sea Trail Byrd was a letdown for your group's first round. The hard, tight fairways and bare roughs sound especially rough, even if the greens and staff were decent. Too bad the bunkers were neglected as well.

Smart call skipping it going forward if you're sticking to upscale tracks only. Sounds like the expectations were much higher for this trip.

Enjoy Barefoot - Love tomorrow. Hope the conditions are a big step up and you guys have a great round. Keep the reports coming!

We were due to play barefoot dye but ran into rain after 3 holes.  Stupidist rain check policy, if you play 1 hole they only will give you a 9 hole replay for our group of 8.  Dumbest policy of the world.  We got in 3 holes.  I plan on sending the GM a email expressing my displeasure at the policy.

Anyway, the sky’s cleared and we went to leopards Chase and the conditions were really good.  Tees, fairways and greens were excellent.  The parking lot for the other 3 courses was very full, probably due to the reduced rate.

On to Grand Dunes for our

That raincheck policy is standard around MB.   Cal + TB will give a 15 hole value raincheck if only playing 3 holes.

On 4/30, I played TW and they held play for an hour.   My TT was PM, so I merely started an hour late.
