Greetings!
Sometimes when planning a golf trip to Myrtle Beach, to balance your budget, you choose high-end courses, mid-range courses, and finally, some “budget” courses! And here we present a “budget course”!
We've had this golf course (the southernmost in the greater Myrtle Beach area) on our radar for a long time, and it was finally on Monday, April 28th, that we were able to add Wedgefield Country Club to our bucket list. And what's more, the weather was perfect for golf, with wall-to-wall sunshine, a lovely 77 degrees and barely a bit of wind!
Wedgefield is a traditional yet picturesque course located in Georgetown, just over an hour from downtown Myrtle Beach. Surrounded by magnificent mature trees and natural landscapes, the place is highly regarded (and we can confirm that we were too) by both local golfers and visitors for its tranquil atmosphere, well-designed course, accessibility, and the hospitality of its staff.
The first nine holes may not leave any great memories, but it's very different on the second nine, where there is a little more variety in terms of design. We particularly liked the #14 holes (a par 4 where you have to cross two bodies of water), as well as the #17 hole (a short par 5 where you can consider birdie... keeping the ball well in the middle for your second and third shots, because the entrance to the green is quite narrow).
Let's face it, in this part of the greater Myrtle Beach area, Wedgefield doesn't have the same reputation as Caledonia, True Blue, Pawleys Plantation, or Heritage. But the fact remains that this par 72, which plays 6,208 yards from the white tees and 4,838 yards for the ladies (see scorecard on https://www.wedgefieldcountryclub.com/images/documents/Wedgefield_SC_913.pdf ), offers a great golfing experience, and the playing conditions were more than decent today!
Despite the recent drought in the greater Myrtle Beach area, the greens were in near-perfect condition, with average speeds. The tee offs, fairways, and sand traps were also in excellent condition.
Let us conclude by mentioning that Wedgefield, which was built in 1972 and features 17 water features and 35 sand traps, has undergone extensive renovations in recent years and is an excellent choice for golfers looking for a pleasant and authentic golf experience in the South Carolina region, without breaking the bank.
Next round on Wednesday April 30 at Diamondback!

Thanks for posting! Nice to see a course we don't get to see too often.
Thanks for the great report on a course that I have never thought about playing. Great pictures of the course.
