Day 3 November 24, 2023

Course: International Club

First Time Playing Course: No

Course Conditions: Very wet, CPO.

Greens: Greens were wildly inconsistent. Some greens were not mowed, some were wet, some were dry and reasonably fast.

Tees: White, 123 slope

Toughest Hole for me: #18

Scoring: Played terrible. Have been tweaking my swing the last couple of rounds.

POP: 4.5 hours

Breakfast: Johnny D'S

Dinner: Thai Cuisine and Sushi Bar. (Take out)

Overall Rating: 5/10.

Miscellaneous Comments. I don't know why I play this course. Didn't like the first time I played it and still don't like it. Our tee time was 12:30, and the course had double teed in the morning. We were the first group out after the double tees. The front 9 was very slow, waited on every hole. The back nine, every body had finished so no waiting. Decent amount of water and bunkers. The bunkers were as hard as concrete, which was to be expected. The 2 guys that I was paired with were decent guys.

Tomorrow: Day off. Next Pawleys Plantation

Sometimes we need to play a course 2-3 times to really decide
if we like it or not.

First off in the PM on a double tee can get you clear sailing on
the back 9, if the PM tee sheet isn't full and no replays get
sent out.

Thanks for reporting!

Day 5 November 26, 2023

Course: Pawleys Plantation

First Time Playing Course: No

Course Conditions: Very good, no CPO. First non CPO course of the trip

Greens: Greens were nearly perfect. The only problem is that they were so hard, it was tough to hold the greens.

Tees: White, 130 slope

Toughest Hole for me: #8

Scoring: Played well, only 1 double

POP: 4 hours

Breakfast: Eggs Up Grille in North Myrtle. Bonus, they open at 6 AM

Dinner: Mission Barbeque (Take out)

Overall Rating: 9/10.

Miscellaneous Comments. It was 3rd time out of 4 rounds so far that it has rained. Went off as a single and on hole #4 caught up with a 4 ball. Not one offer the play through. Luckily, they only played 9 holes. They did a great job on the remodel. Cart path are almost perfect, bunkers looked good and greens were consistent, but were very hard to hold.

Tomorrow: Azalea Sands

Good to read about Pawleys. I have it booked for Spring.

New greens are often hard and Pawleys has a bunch of holes that need to be
hit on the fly.

Thanks!

Day 6 November 27, 2023

Course: Azalea Sands

First Time Playing Course: Yes

Course Conditions: Decent, Dry

Greens: Greens Pretty good, rolled pretty true.

Tees: White, 123 slope

Toughest Hole for me: #15

Scoring: Played ok. Birdie on 17 salvaged the round.

POP: 3.5 hours

Breakfast: Dino's

Dinner: Greg Norman's

Overall Rating: 7.5/10.

Miscellaneous Comments: First time playing here. Seemed like a municipal course back home. Fairways were fairly green, the rough looked like dormant Bermuda grass. Greens were good. Bunkers were very hard. Chilly, breezy and overcast to start the round. Again, played as a single, with 2 singles behind me. Overall, an ok course.

Tomorrow: Crown Park

It is interesting to read your reports because you are playing courses that our group does not play very often.  I think the last time I played Azalea Sands was at least 15 years ago.  Keep up the good work!

I have read various places that Azalea Sands has been improved.
I still feel it's ranked near the bottom of MB.

I can think of 5 or 6 that are worse than Azalea

Day 7 November 28, 2023

Course: Crown Park

First Time Playing Course: Yes

Course Conditions: Decent, pretty dry, only holes 1 and 2 CPO

Greens: Greens excellent, fast, speed just below Pawleys, rolled pretty true. Greens were painted

Tees: White, 120 slope. I can never figure out the slope. Yesterday Azalea, 123 slope, approx. same distance, much more wide open. Thought it was much easier than Crown Park

Toughest Hole for me: #12

Scoring: Played ok. Birdie on 18 salvaged the round.

POP: 4 hours

Breakfast: Johnny D's

Dinner: Geno's Pizza (takeout)

Overall Rating: 8.5/10.

Miscellaneous Comments: First time playing here. Started overcast and chilly and ended sunny but chilly. Some very narrow fairways, some very wide fairways as well. Some wet spots, but fairways pretty good. Bunkers were ok, adequate amount of water. No beverage cart.

Tomorrow: Heritage

Day 8 November 29, 2023

Course: Heritage Club

First Time Playing Course: No

Course Conditions: Best condition so far, Fairways really good for this time of year. Rough ok. CPO on 4 holes

Greens: Greens good, speed a little inconsistent. Many small breaks that are hard to see. Greens were painted

Tees: White, 130 slope.

Toughest Hole for me: #12 thru #17

Scoring: Was working on swing the front 9, played decent on the back. Started on #10 today

POP: 3 hours

Breakfast: Johnny D's

Dinner: Left overs

Overall Rating: 8.75/10.

Miscellaneous Comments: I enjoy this course. Some peculiarities though. The parking kind of sucks, today no cart to pick you up or bring you back to the parking lot. There were very, very few ball washers and none on the buggy. There were no markers at the tee boxes to let you know what hole you were on. No beverage cart.

Tomorrow: Day Off

Day 10 December 1, 2023

Course: Arrowhead Country Club, Waterway-Lakes

First Time Playing Course: No

Course Conditions: Very good, both fairways and rough were green

Greens: Greens Very good

Tees: Green 119 slope. Was hooked up with 3 other people that were playing from the green tees, so I joined them

Toughest Hole for me: #7 on the Waterway Course

Scoring: Played very well

POP: 4.5 hours On the front nine we were behind 3 groups that were playing a scramble, which is very slow. Why do they allow this?

Breakfast: Johnny D's

Dinner: Red Robin

Overall Rating: 9/10.

Miscellaneous Comments: I enjoy this course. However following the scramble, put a bit of a damper on it. Originally was suppose to play Waterway-Cyprus, however, was diverted to the Lakes course. Cyprus is my favorite 9 holes on this course. Didn't see a ranger at all. On one of the par 3 holes there were pulling the $20 scam. There was a beverage cart and they accepted credit cards.

Tomorrow: Thistle

I don't think courses have rules against a scramble, because a
scramble should be faster.   If you played PM, those guys might
have been replaying and drinking.

AH usually has 2 nines double teeing and the 3rd 9 offset by
2 hours, so they have tee times all day.  This make it hard to
get the 2 nines you want, unless maybe booking on the day
of play.

Thanks!

Day 11 December 2, 2023

Course: Thistle Golf Club Cameron-Stewart

First Time Playing Course: No

Course Conditions: Very good, fairways green, rough dormant

Greens: Very good, painted, tough to read. Maybe most difficult so far or I had a bad putting day.

Tees: White 125 slope

Toughest Hole for me: #2 on the Stewart course

Scoring: Played decent tee to green, not much good putting

POP: 3.5 Hours

Breakfast: Theo's

Dinner: Greg Normans

Overall Rating: 8.75/10.

Miscellaneous Comments: I enjoy this course. It is the only course that I regularly see alligators. Saw 2 today. No club cleaners on carts, very few ball washers. Just note the black and white post on the fairways is to let you to exit the fairway with your cart, not the 150 yard marker. Had GPS on the cart. Beverage cart only beer and soda, nothing stronger.

Tomorrow: Tidewater
