Looks to be lots and lots of $$$$ being spent on the Byrd course, clubhouse, practice facility and more. Byrd course will be closed for a few months for all the changes. Glad to see money is being spent and these courses that need work aren't being bought out for housing/retail development.
Very good news. I like the courses at Sea Trail. It is something i will follow.

I only played ST Byrd...years ago. unimpressed hugely ,so never went to the other courses (Are there still 3 ???)
Would love to go back after a facelift though.

It's usually between Maples + Jones for best at Sea Trail.
It's great to improve the courses. However I don't think the
layouts are interesting enough to attract package golfers like
Legends does. It might turn out to be a bigger benefit to
locals on the Trail or Passport card.

The gentleman who developed the software for airport TSA Check Points is the Owner at Sea Trail, Rivers Edge and International Club.
You'll see that he's remodeled all three clubhouses and then will start working on the courses to improve the conditions.
Very happy to see someone getting these properties back to where they were and should be!

@artmbgolf I don't know -- Sea Trail didn't seem to have any problems attracting a bunch of package play 15-20 years ago when the conditions were better. Having a hotel and condos for staying on-site will be a big plus for that too.
I agree that the layouts aren't anything special, but they're as good as, if not better than, courses like Crow Creek, Meadowlands, Farmstead (when it was still open), and River Hills that don't seem to have any trouble getting package play. As long as the conditions are good people will play.
I agree. When I was a kid, and would vacation at Ocean Isle Beach, Sea Trail was the place to be for golf. Conditions were always excellent and the course design held up well against most in that area. I think the Byrd is the weakest of the three designs, but still solid. Jones and Maples are both very good, in my opinion. Reliable conditions and a mid-level to just under a premium offering should attract a steady flow of golfers.
@artmbgolf Right now you do not want to play the Maples course as it is bad shape and has been for a couple of years

When you were a kid .... is the key to that sentence, how old are you now?

Let's no forget that - Himmelsbach Communications aka The Glens Golf Group no longer operates On The Green Magazine.
There is a Golf Package Company that has a small fraction of ownership in Sea Trail and they publish On The Green Magazine .... so yes you'll see lots and lots of very posotive information about Sea Trail in OTG.

It will be nice to see how the changes are going come Nov. All 3 courses when in playing shape offer you a test to your game, not every hole but a few on each.
More on ST Byrd. They are going all out. Hopefully the new RE owner,
who is a partner at ST, reads the part about new tifeagle greens, because
that is a big missing piece at RE.
Hopefully ST Byrd isn't getting too lined up with housing.
I plan to try it in Oct.

I will certainly try the new Byrd course after the reopening. i like this course. Sea Trail will be a good destination to play golf. Not too far away of North Myrtle Beach.
