Topic starter

1st time at WW this past Friday; down for a long weekend from Columbia. 3pm Tee Time, $117 😒 (I know still peak Spring)

Nice interaction with bag drop guy, pro shop staff, bar area was full of people and attendant was busy, and not around. Since I was a single, I was just going to get paired with some random people, which is normally fine; however coming in behind me was 12 guys fresh off the plane with some liquid courage already flowing. I nicely asked if I could just go by myself a couple minutes early, and was given the green light (thank goodness). Starter was great, laid out problem areas of the course as far as pace of play goes, talked about strategy of certain holes, and even offered some suggestions on where my wife could get some good nature pictures (she was riding with and had her camera).

Course was in really good shape, there was some sand on the greens, guess from when they punched recently? Phenomenal cart paths! Course is tough, tight in some places, open in others. Pace of play on the front was atrocious, but once we hit #10 things started to open up a bit. Final pace of play was 4.5+ hours, being a single I had a few occasions when I hit 2 or 3 balls, or extra putts so I wasn't sitting on a tee box. Thank goodness the beverage cart accepted debit cards (some still only take cash), was a hot day with not a ton of wind.

Went 47-54, got a bit tired on the back 9. Enjoyable round, definitely want to come back, maybe just off peak rates or with a package...because not sure if the value is there.

7/10

WW can be a bear of a course if you are on the wrong tees.  It plays long but is usually in very good shape.

They wouldn't punch greens in peak season.    Courses do spread sand every couple weeks or so, to help keep them smooth.

Thanks for reporting.

I have played WW Avocet at least 4 times since moving down here in 1/2021.  I appreciate the course more each time I play it.  (At one point in time, Founders Group considered turning it into one of their premium courses which it almost borders on currently.)
