We played here today under grey skies, not to much wind and cool temps until the final few holes.  We were first off the tee and as a twosome we sped around in 2 1/2 hours, wish it was that way each time we played.   The course is very green but the fairways are on the thin side, and for me I had to roll it after I cleaned the mud of the ball.  Tee areas are nice and level and the greens rolled smoothly, speed was better then medium I felt.  Sand traps all groomed, a few wet in the low lying areas, UGP gets out of them perfectly, me out in one shot to somewhere on the green is good, 2 traps I hit were also on the soft side so the ball was a semi fried egg.  Long Bay is a good solid course, not many gifts to give you an easy Par , best chance is the Par 5 15th hole.

I feel this is a course that needs to be played more than once so you can learn where to try and place the ball off the tee for access to the greens.  Not an easy course.

Enjoyed the round Lefty, our other two players somehow ended up at MBN - will be interesting to find out how they made that slight error! Long bay is a tough course, though not nearly as difficult as some others in MB (Wachesaw Private and Dunes are tougher for me). We never rushed but played in 2.5 - occasionally hit a couple of second shots - I was playing around with the Alien sand wedge - good out of the sand - iffy from the fairway, will report more fully after I use it some more. Greens were real good and putted true, and as Lefty said, the fairways were very thin and slightly muddy, made it difficult to hit irons from them. The bag guys are all old and great, one has been there since they opened. Until it truly dries out - go to MBN, all of them are in better shape. I'm looking forward to playing Aberdeen in February - talked to the pro - it's in awesome shape as no one has been on it since the last flood. I'll report as soon as I play it. Thank you for the game Lefty - you are a gentleman of the first order, thanks for putting up with me. UGP - with the pin in on all putts!

On some greens at Long Bay, we need to learn which ones are shallow, which pin
positions are too small to shoot at and which have big slopes affect approach shots.

At least it's forgiving off the tee on a lot of holes.

Thanks for the reports!

15 is a hole that gets me more than any other hole on the course, 18 is probably second. But I hear you on the easy par as I have probably had more birdies on 15 than any other hole, but the second shot on 15 has become a low percentage shot for this hacker.

Gregg, that Alien maybe your club from 50 or so yards in, out of the traps it is spot on for you, will look forward to our next game.

Art, you are right the greens and the angle you need to come into them is everything, very challenging on most holes here.

Thanks for the input Gentlemen!

Played Long Bay 4-5 times and always find that course challenging and fun to play!

Nicklaus designs greens that require high fades - at LB - # 3 is an unfair green from the left side to the middle - you have to be + or Minus a few yards  - it you go over you're dead. I'll typically play short left when the pin is on the left and try and get it up and down for par.
