Played here today, we had about a 15 minute frost delay, guys at the bag drop worked their tails off to get groups out as fast as they could.  Course was CPO on just one hole, not after this area has had a large amount of rain since mid Sept.

The course has a very good over seed, ball sat up decent on the fairways, but we had to clean the ball after each shot as mud balls were an issue.  We played the white tees so just over 6400 yds.  Traps had been groomed or were being groomed by staff.  Greens were on the slow side  and bumpy in spots and had yet to be cut, but with this being the day after Christmas it was not an issue to us, we still found the hole eventually.  Parkland is not everyone's favorite course at Legends, both Heathland's and Moorlands seem to always be busier.  We will head back to play the Parkland's again.

I played Parklands on the 24th - greens very bumpy, not over seeded, needed to be rolled. Good over seed in the fairways - best deal in town 28 bucks including breakfast and dinner. Not a huge fan of any of the Legends courses, but they are well maintained and usually in very good shape and a good challenge. Play is typically slow there, but we made it in 4 hours that day. Surprised you played the whites - had to play over 6700 with no roll. Senior tees are 6k and still long in the wet.

Where they often battle slow play, Legends should not have white tees at 6400.
The general public, not ready for SR tees, will play whites.   SRs playing 6000 are playing fairly
long for SR.  The big challenging greens use a lot of time on 3 putts.

Thanks, for the reports.

I agree with you - white tees should always be around 6k and Parklands/Legends/Moorland all play longer than their yardage because of the make up of the courses. I don't go to Legends very often because of the slow play

As we were ending our game we saw what looked like a green machine heading out onto the Heathland's course, ( we did play day after Christmas Day and with the frost delay maintenance was behind ) I sure agree the greens need to be rolled daily if possible and cut now and then, the no over seed is not really an issue as so many MB course do this now to save $$.  As I said we will head back and hopefully this %$^%# Rain!! will end long enough so courses can get into a good maintenance schedule.

Art, I think many courses here with White Tees at 6300+ yds. should have a combination set of tees on the scorecard to help with the slow play.  Yesterday we had group of guys who were playing the Blue Tees, looked back on Hole 2 and not of them made it over the waste area, after that we never saw them again.  We see this often and put it down to get more course for your money??  Even some Marshall's tell us they suggest groups move up a tee but get that LOOK as to say F Off.  It's a problem back home as well so not just a MB thing.

Thanks for the post!  I've avoided Legends on my trips because of slow play and the yardage is tough for some of my guys who only play a couple times a year.  I quit worrying about the color of the tees and play to my preferred yardage a couple of years ago.  I determined that I was on the course to have fun, not beat the crap out of myself.  You still have to put it in the hole no matter the yardage....

I wish all golfers would play the proper yardage. When I play Senior PGA events they are 5800 to 6000 where I can play. 220 off the tee when it rolls is a good drive for me. I'm stuck playing many scratch games where I'm hitting 3 wood or 3 hybrid into the green and others are hitting 7 or 8 irons. Played Grande Dunes the other day from the whites in a 30 mph wind - couldn't reach 40% of the par 4's in 2. *Won money that day - thank you for 13 years in Texas!

Some Barefoot courses are 5800 from the white and so is Caledonia + Oyster Bay, but
nobody says they are easy.    I seldom see good scores from the whites on those courses and
far less from the Blues.

I bet a lot of groups are lead by an avid golfer who can play the Blue tees and the others insist
on joining him.   That or some are embarrassed for some reason to shoot a decent score from
the whites or hit some PW's into holes.

Another chime in away from Legends Parkland to playing the correct tees.  Thankfully more courses are adding "blended" tees when they have a big gap from one regular set to another.  This is a great trend a lot of courses in Florida have been doing and I'd like to see more of in MB.  If it's not available, I make up my own set of tees that gets as close to 6000 yards as possible without becoming too difficult to set up scorecards.  A lot of the "white" tees in MB are too long for the majority of my group.  I looked back at my trip information sent to all my guys before last year and here's what we played:

First Heritage tee time 9:08.  Play the White Tees for all Par 5s and Par 3s and Green Tees for all the Par 4s.

First Blackmoor Tee Time at 8:40 and first round of the tournament. We will be playing the Gold Tees on the front 9 and the White Tees on the back 9.

First Witch Tee Time 9:00. We will play the Green Tees on the front 9 and the White Tees on the back 9.

First Caledonia tee time 8:27.  We will play the Blue Tees on the front 9 and the White Tees on the back 9.

First True Blue tee time 8:18.  We will play the White Tees on #1-4 and #10-13 and the Black Tees the remaining 5 holes on each side.

Rog

Oyster Bay is very long from the whites -and Art has the right idea - make up your own course length. In our scratch game at the West course we play 5's and 3's from the tips and whites on the fours (and yes I play with some long hitters) I really like the surf club from their combo tees of green and white - makes it far more enjoyable for me.

Enjoyed all of the Legend courses a few years back during a father-son trip but have not returned since.  Why? - you guessed it - PACE OF PLAY.  Five hour rounds are not acceptable. Yes its a great deal, but not worth the aggravation.  Multiple times we made the turn to find 2-3 groups waiting on the next tee.  I understand its a numbers game but ill pass, too many other options.

This actually makes me feel like some people actually get it.  Maybe it's because we play more and want to enjoy ourselves.  My group played Heritage this year when it was absolutely soaked so there was NO roll.  We played the Green tees at about 5700 yards and everyone had a blast.  The fact that I tied my best score ever didn't hurt my outlook...

UNC - I know exactly what you mean - I'm playing the Surf Club in a scratch game Saturday and dreading how long the course is going to play for me. I am by far the shortest hitter of the group in many cases by at least 50+ yards. But if it's not all the time, it's a challenge I like. But for the most part - I want to play up and just enjoy myself.

Thanks for the update on a course i enjoyed playing.

I agree to play what you want when you are on vacation. At home i am comfy around 6500 give or take some based on the hole makeup's.
