Had hoped to make BHI one of our rounds during our upcoming trip in May.  When we booked our trip in November, BHI was not accepting outside play due to the dreaded covid - 19.  Now that we are getting closer to our trip, I reached out to Golf Trek to see if it was a possibility.  Unfortunately, the word is that BHI will once again not be open to non-members.  According to Jason at Golf Trek, the agreement BHI had with some of the packagers to book rounds has expired and it very well could be a thing of the past.

I did want to test the waters and reached out to the course directly by email.  Received a response from the course pro, explaining that at least for 2022 they are not accepting the non-member golfers.  Like many places, member demand has been up during covid and they've seen a spike in the number of rounds being played.  Only way to golf is if you're a regular member or if you have a qualified rental on the island and sign up for a guest membership.

Hopefully things change going forward and outside golf is permitted down the road.  Playing BHI is truly a unique experience and a great day of golf.

Playing BHI is one of the treats of the MB experience, if you do not mind an all-day trip.  The package our group had included as much golf as we could play w/cart and the ferry fees.  It was worth every penny.  BHI would be on my list of the top five courses I have ever played.  The customer service was outstanding.  They picked us up at the ferry dock and took us to the course, then took us back to the ferry when it was departure time.

Hopefully next year they can open it back up for outside play.

@tadpole It really is an all day commitment, but it is truly a great day.

What a bummer @brewcrew.

I'm feeling sad for you, since I had the privilege to play BHI three years ago and it was a real treat for my wife and I!

The 2nd time we played there, we caught an early ferry, the smaller one. It was cool, cloudy & windy & the enclosed passenger cabin was full, so we had to stand outside, holding our clubs.

Then, the rain set in & the wind came up, & every time the bow crested a wave, a huge splash came out from under the front of the boat & the wind blew it straight back in our faces.

When we got to the course, we looked like we had just taken showers with our clothes on. The good news was the off & on rain kept all the locals home so we had the course to ourselves.

Still a great day.

Bald Head Island truly is a great experience.  our group played there, booked through Brian, about 3 or 4 years ago and of all of the dozens of MB courses we have played, it ranked within all of our top 5 or better. The entire day from Ferry ride over to the island, playing 36 holes on the course was fantastic.  Hopefully it will open up to non-member play again!

Truly, BHI is one of the very best golf experiences in the entire southeast.  It is an all day commitment, no doubt, but it's so worth it.  The ferry to and from is beautiful, just the right length and so scenic.  Customer service provided by BHI is top shelf.  The golf course is exquisite; a Tim Cate re-do from a George Cobb original (the guy did the Par 3 @ Augusta National).  The holes are separated from each other, each hole is a world of its own.  The housing is not intrusive to the golf.  There are all kinds of challenges, a nice mix of easy and difficult holes, some exposed to winds, some not so much, big greenside bunkers, and greens that are not tricked-up but are quite large with challenging undulations.  Typically, BHI does not allow outside play during their summer season as the property is full of owners, members & guests.  During the off season, BHI has allowed some outside play, usually by organizers or certain network packagers.  All things considered, if you really enjoy golf with a unique twist, this is a must for you.  I've been fortunate to play it twice and I can't wait for the next opportunity.
