No. 5 at BF Fazio. Very long par 4 uphill.

Yes, number 16 at Oyster Bay is brutal. I pretty much play it as a par 5 which is ok because Oyster Bay is a par 70.

@ploots

The 16th hole at Oyster Bay Golf Links is a brutally difficult par 4 due to its length (around 450–470 yards), a massive lake running the entire right side that punishes any miss right, and a forced carry over water on the approach to a heavily guarded, undulating green with little bailout room. Hitting the tight fairway off the tee is essential for any realistic shot at par, but the combination of water pressure, precision demands, and a tricky putting surface makes it one of the toughest holes on the course.

#16 at Oyster Bay looks like a par5, with the 2 bunkers short left of
the green and the green is small for a long hole.  It was never a par 5 on the card.
Originally the white tee was back further.   Around 15 years ago they moved the white
tee up where the SR tee was.   It would have been better to keep it longer and
call it a par 5, especially since it's a par 70.

I agree it could have worked well as a par 5: keep the longer tee option back there, let stronger players go for it in two (risking the water and bunkers), while others lay up, and it would add some strategic variety without messing with the flow. That said, designating it as a par 4 forces everyone to think aggressively and rewards bold play, which fits the links-style, risk-reward vibe Oyster Bay has going (especially with the marsh, water, and those signature oyster-shell elements nearby on 15/17).It's a signature hole for a reason—beautiful but punishing.

18 at Glen Dornoch from the blue tee. If you can't carry the driver 235 then you shoot up the fairway to the right. However you can be in that fairway 200-215 off the tee and be blocked out by that tree in the middle of the marsh. So you need to hit one 190 or 220+. But if you choose the latter you take on more risk and have just as long a 2nd shot.

I agree, that 18th at Glen Dornoch is a classic risk-reward par 4 that punishes indecision—especially from the blues (around 448 yards total). The safe play is laying up right, but as you said, even a solid 200–215 drive there often leaves you blocked by that pesky tree in the marsh, forcing a punch-out or awkward angle. So you either dial it back to ~190 for a clearer look (but longer approach) or bomb it 220+ to carry the trouble left and open up the green—though that brings more marsh/OB risk and still leaves a mid-to-long iron in. It's a hole that forces strategy over pure power, and it's no wonder it's notorious for wrecking cards on an already tough closing stretch. Have you found a consistent way to play it, or is it always a scramble?

Also on Glen Dornoch #18, wherever the pin is, it's a very small target to be
hitting to from around 200 yards on the right side.

9 at Rivers Edge for the reason Art mentioned.  If you don't hit the ball 250 you are in trouble.
