Chicagohack 8-21- 8-24

Trip Bio: Have been going to Myrtle most of the last 30 years with group sizes ranging from 4-20. Had back surgery two years ago that I havent really recovered from but made it through all 6 rounds this year. 8 Guys from tampa, Vegas, and Chicago in this years group and the trip was a day shorter and later in the summer than usual for us and boy, did we feel the difference! Hell cant be as hot and humid as Myrtle in August! in our 50's now so nightlife after 36 involved going to dinner and thats it. lol

Day 1 Friday- AM Glen Dornoch- Earlier reports of drought conditions have now been eliminated. A couple weeks of rains made everything play extremely long, no roll anywhere but course in great shape overall. Holes 16-18 continue to be the highlight of this track, and it was the only course that wasnt that crowded of the 6 we played.

PM Tidewater- extremely disappointed in green conditions as they sanded everywhere and didnt cut them. My carpet at home is faster and I would avoid Tidewater at all costs for the time being. By far the worst conditions we experienced. the bag boy said come back in April and theyre mint. LOL, not much help for the hundy we dropped to play in August. Fairways and tee boxes were fine but can't justify paying for greens that crappy.

Sat- Rivers Edge- again played long and soggy but still my favorite course in the country. I love every hole except 13 which is the only boring hole on the course. Just an absolute Sauna though as we all were sweating buckets on the practice green. Pretty sure i didnt piss all day. You can tell they've put a lot of money into both the course and the clubhouse. 

Sun AM- True Blue- course in great shape, albeit wet so CPO wasnt much fun. You walk a LOT when its CPO at True Blue. Advice is to play it at  a tee box shorter than you think. We played whites and it was plenty. 

PM- Caledonia- Unfortunately only got 9 in as it absolutely deluged 3 inches in an hour(thats what she said) and rained us out. Course and greens were probably best of the trip. A good time to be playing Caledonia. 

Mon AM- Kings North. Was really expecting more visual changes with the renovation than I noticed. Still really like this layout and it was in great shape too. Fastest greens we played on but still not overly quick. they enhanced many traps and removed some bunkers on 18, but not much else stuck out.

Overall we continue to be surprised at how many people now occupy "off-season" in Myrtle as the courses that 20 years ago were empty in summer are pretty much packed. We're probably going to take a break from Myrtle and try another location next year. Dinners were at Roadhouse(which sucked this year with overdone ribs), Mellow Mushroom(excellent) and Carolina Ale house(very good). We rented VRBO's which I highly recommend. Also surprised Broadway at the beach has lost all its action. theres really only one "club" to speak of if you consider Crocodile Rocks that. Miss the Bar louie days of karaoke or OZ and revolutions. That whole side of Broadway is dead. Whoever came up with the idea of a magic show theater needs to have their head examined.
