Hello all,
looking for a little experienced advice. Mid September trip with 5 courses.
Right now we have Tidewater, Dunes club and True Blue on the list to play, we need 2 more. We were thinking Bald Head and Surf Club but we were told those clubs are not accepting players outside of members.
Our last 2 course choices we are considering are Leopards chase, Glen Dornoch, Farmstead, Shaftsbury Glen, Crow Creek or Thistle.
Staying in central MB and we don't mind any lengthy drive times.
Taking greens fee's cost out of the equation, for Mid September what courses on our "considering" list would you recommend??
This is our groups 20th year trip so we are considering "higher end" courses, but mid tier are always an option.
Thank you for the any advice...

Based on your courses listed, I would go with Thistle and Glen Dornach.
Glen Dornoch, Farmstead, Crow Creek, Thistle are all good options. Grande Dunes or Prestwick shouldn't be far away for some other premium options.
Have you played TPC? And I had forgotten how much I like King's North until we played it again in Feb.
TW, Dunes, TB are great choices!
Based on your considering list, Glen Dornoch + Thistle are the 2 most premium.
Farmstead, Crow Creek, Shaft are forgiving as a first day course, if you
want that and to keep the price down some.
As you may have read, Leop Chase is not maintained at premium levels and
doesn't have a clubhouse, only a trailer, so best to skip it for a special trip.
Besides the other premium courses already suggested, there is also Caledonia
Heritage and Barefoot Fazio or Dye.

I agree with Thistle and Glen Dornoch off your list; they're a step above the other courses you mentioned right now. Leopard's Chase is a very good golf course from a design standpoint, but the conditions have been consistently bad for several years so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
If you're willing/able to go play anywhere, I'd go to Caledonia. It's the best public golf course in Myrtle Beach IMO. King's North and all four Barefoot courses (I think Fazio is the best) are good options as well. I'm also a pretty big fan of Pine Lakes as a golden era design, although the two new holes they had to build feel out of character with the rest of the golf course. Rivers Edge is another possibility -- not as expensive as most of the others mentioned, but it's probably the second most scenic course in the whole area behind Tidewater.
I would go with Thistle and Farmstead. Glen Dornoch is also good. Farmstead is one of the best conditioned courses in the MB area and has great greens. I have played it over a dozen times and never had any issues with conditions or customer service. Thistle has three nines and consistent conditions.
From your list, I would go with Glen Dornoch and either Thistle or Farmstead. As others have said, if Leopards Chase receives some good condition reports as you get closer to your trip, that would take the place of Thistle or Farmstead for me.
If you're staying in central MB, you're close to Pine Lakes, Grande Dunes-Resort, Arrowhead, King's North, Wild Wing, Prestwick, and a host of others.
Kings North or Rivers Edge
Golf is just an excuse to drink whiskey and smoke cigars
If you are staying in central MB why not play two of the Barefoot courses. I would suggest Fazio and Dye.
A couple observations after reading tge above posts...
I've been visiting MB the first 2 weeks of October for several years.
inquire with The Dunes about when they punch their greens. I played last year on a Monday and the greens were sanded heavily.
golfing Tidewater in the fall has seen great conditions as they host a tournament in mid- October
Don't even consider The Cat courses.
If you choose a mid tier, play it on your first day

I like some of the above suggestions if price is no object.
TPC .. DJ's home course
BF FAZIO.. not tricked up like Dye, but Dye is fun.
HERITAGE.. beautiful course
RIVERS EDGE... scenery ×2
GRANDE DUNES... some nice waterway holes
PRESTWICK.. haven't played but I need to. Hear nothing but good things and it is central.

Off your list I'd choose GLEN DORNOCH and FARMSTEAD and play them at beginning of the trip
Good luck,

@golface1374 : be sure to verify first with the owner of this Forum, Brian Noblin (1 844 706-7503) about trying to play Bald Head Island (an experience you'll appreciate for sure). I played there two summers ago and really love the whole journey!
If you have already done with Brian, then I would opt for Caledonia and King's North!

From your list Glen Dornoch and Farmstead (conditions have been very, very good) and then Thistle.
