Small anecdote in the Sun News this morning, a man held onto a rain check for 19 years and a Myrtle Beach golf course honored it recently. The value of the rain check was 65$. I was not aware that a rain check can be honored so long. You?

Let the Big Dawg Bark!!!
Over the years of coming to MB we have never had an issue with using a rain check, oldest one was 5 years old, Pro Shop honored it no problems.
Yea, I've got one now for Shaftsberry that is six years old. My problem is that I come down to MB with a group of 20, so it is hard to use just one raincheck.
Founders Group rain checks have no expiration dates on them.
Here is a link to the Prestwick raincheck.

Expiration varies by the management company. Some track the raincheck and some don't.
It is becoming more common to have an expiration of 2 years, some 5 years, some unlimited.

If you book Shaft Glen or any course, Brian or any packager can book you as 20, with 1
rain check, 20 with 4 rainchecks, etc. Your pkg ticket will then say it's for 19 and you
will use your raincheck for spot #20. If you lose or forget it, you pay for yourself.

I had an unfortunate issue with a rain check at an unnamed course. It was less than a year old but I had kept it in my wallet and the ink had worn off and was undesernable. Needless to say they didn’t honor it. Moral of the story is don’t keep them in your wallet!
Now many rainchecks also say "Original copy required".
Before CV, often rainchecks were for sale on Ebay.
After CV, they are seldom for sale on Ebay.
The only theories I have are:
With the higher golf rates, maybe more want to go back to MB to use them.
Maybe the % of package groups now are longer time regulars who go back.

The addition of "Original copy required" language is a clear anti-fraud or anti-resale measure many courses adopted (or strengthened) in recent years. It makes it much harder to sell or transfer them casually, since a photocopy or photo won't suffice at check-in.
A raincheck that offsets a now-pricier round is worth more to the holder, so fewer people are motivated to sell at a steep discount. If you're already planning to return (or can easily do so), why unload it for pennies on the dollar?

The Original Copy Required isn't a problem if we buy, sell, trade.
We just can't Xerox it. Courses have not enforced user being the
name on the RC, because if a course puts a name on it, it will be
the group leaders name on every RC.
I think those who sell rainchecks, don't plan to return.
There have been a lot less for sale after CV.
