Our group played Moorland today. Yes it is the Pete Dye course at the Legends. Following all the recommandations posted on this forum, we choosed the right tees. Doing that, we had a lot of fun. More than if we had played from the white tees. As seniors, we choosed the green tees. It was cold and windy at the beginning of our round of golf. Guys at the bag drop and in the clubhouse at the Legends made a fantastic job.
We started on the 10th hole, on time. Like Heathland, Moorland is well maintained, no problem at all all along the course. Tees, alleys, bunkers and greens are top shape. Greens were in excellent condition. They are faster than those on Heathland. I prefer faster greens. Thanks to my partners LeftyGar, Randy and John; it was fun to play with them again. We have a terrific forsome. Congratulations to LeftyGar for his score on the back nine, an unbelievable 40, which is great considering the cold and the wind we had on the back nine holes.
Next time, we are scheduled to play Parklands, at the Legends. A report will follow.
''It's just golf, let's have fun''
Played some of the Legends courses a couple years ago. Height of the golf season in April and on more than a few holes the white tees were pushed up to where the green tees would normally be. I imagine it was done to help the pace of play, but it left some of my guys unhappy.
I've never been unhappy when having to play from a shorter distance. ????????????
what did you say?

Moorland has a bunch of holes where we don't want to be hitting
long clubs to the greens.
Thanks for another report!

Moorlands was both tough and fun yesterday, greens can give most players fits, but overall a good course that will test any players game. Lots of sod had been placed down around many traps and tee areas, building of new 2 story condos on the left side of 10, 11, and 15 is coming along quickly, not sure if they will be Legends rentals, no signs up anywhere.
Moorland is one of Dye's more playable courses
Golf is just an excuse to drink whiskey and smoke cigars
@undercover-golf-pro I think Moorland has the most extreme greens of any Dye course I've played, but I do think it's playable under the conditions they keep it. In my opinion the Barefoot Dye course is a very mild Dye course. So is Debordieu.
The greens on Moorland are always soft and average speed. Every now and then they will get them running a good speed and they are near impossible with some of the crazy pins they have.
Well Moorland isn't a Pete Dye course. It's a P.B. Dye course (Pete's son) and he often built harder courses than his dad did. Not always, of course, but he usually tried to emulate his dad's style without being as talented.
Pete Dye has designed some excellent courses (I really like the Dye course at Barefoot and think it's the best at the complex), but he definitely built some really difficult ones too -- thing is, he was often asked to build really hard ones. Developers often specifically wanted that so they could advertise how hard it was.
That’s right, Moorland was done by P.B Dye. He does have a lot of the same characteristics on his courses as his dad. Maybe a little tougher. Prestwick and Cross Creek CC in the upstate were designed by both. CCCC is probably the toughest Dye course I’ve played.
Moorland has been shortened and softened up the last few years but the greens are still tricky.
That is a course i love to play, enjoyed my time there when i played it.
