Noon tee time today.
Weather was wonderful.
Course was in okayish shape.
Maybe I’m being too picky. Only have Crow Creek from yesterday to compare to but CC was in my opinion in much better shape.

LB fairways were very thin in some of the over seeded patches.

Bunker liners were visible in several green side bunkers.

Greens looked fine but were relatively slow.

For some reason the course was very squishy in places. Although it was not CPO anywhere, hole 16 was horrible and had deep cart ruts in the fairway and huge water collections in the waste bunker.

On a semi related note, the small narrow greens guarded by deep fronting bunkers give players without high stopping power issues.

For me, other than say hole 10 and the island par 3, many of the holes just seemed to be monotonous.

I apologize if I’ve offended any, but after playing nearly 40 courses in the MB area, Long Bay is easily in my bottom 5.

Long Bay was originally designed by Nicklaus to be a private course.
I don't know if that affected the design any, but it could be why more
than half of the approach shots feel like you have to hit it the perfect
distance.

Thanks!

Thanks for reporting.  I've never played Long Bay when it was in bad shape. That may be because I play it during fall or summer.

Sorry to hear about the conditions.

Thanks for the update on the course. I will tell you not everyone will like what you say. I have had it with my statements on places. Dont take them to heart everyone has an opinion.

Thanks for your take on Long Bay, it is a decent layout when conditions are right.  Many good holes and that Par 3 island green is one of my favorites.  As I posted on my Diamondback experience most Hwy. 9 courses tend to stay on the soft side after a rain shower and should be avoided for a week or so, maybe longer once the weather turns cooler.

Thanks @brattenj for your input and don't worry, you have the right to have your own opinion and uninamity doesn't have to be a rule here from what I know! 😉

Take care!

I've only played Long Bay once a couple of years ago and I wasn't very impressed either. The conditions were average but I wasn't a big fan of the layout. I haven't had much interest in returning.

I played Long Bay for the first time in October.  They had just over seeded and nothing had germinated yet.  The layout is ok and very typical of Nicklaus. For the most part, it seems golfers design golf courses "in their own image."  Since very few of us hit it like Nicklaus, it presents some unique challenges.  Yes, hitting it exactly the right difference is more of a requirement than most courses require.  However, it is a pretty good layout with a wide variety of holes and shot value requirements.  For me it is a "middlin" layout.  Not in my top 10 Myrtle Beach courses, but worth the play a couple times a year.
