We are meeting a friend driving down from north of Wilmington. We figured that one of the Big Cats courses would be a good central location for us coming from Murrells Inlet. Never played any of the 4 Big Cats courses. Can anyone advise.
athanks in advance
Our group used to play one of the Cat courses every trip to MB but have not done so in four or five years due to constant reports of bad conditions.
In my opinion, Tiger's Eye is the best layout. I can't vouch for the conditions, but it is the best course of the four courses you can play there.
Commuter between North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
I'd avoid the Big Cats because of conditions. It's possible they've improved recently, but for the past several years they've been awful with weeds growing in the fairways and bunkers and huge dead spots on some greens. I don't think any of you would be happy driving an hour to play in those conditions.
I'd recommend Rivers Edge -- it'd be about 10 minutes further for you guys coming from Murrells, but it's a better course in much better shape. If the person coming from Wilmington didn't mind driving a bit longer, you could do Glen Dornoch, which would be about 10 minutes longer for him than the Big Cats.
I like what uncgolf said for courses.

@jw11 Thistle would also be an excellent option. The others are all varying shades of okay to me but not really worth driving an hour to play -- the three courses at Sea Trail are also in this category for me (and also in the same area).
Of course, if the point is just to meet up with the friend and the level of golf isn't too important, then all of those courses would work very well!
I have played 3 of 4 the Big Cats courses recently (using my Myrtle Beach Golf Passport.) Here are my observations:
Leopards Chase: Great layout. Fairways - good, Bunkers -good, Greens - Ugg
Lions Paw: Decent layout. (Back nine much better than the front nine.) Fairways - good, Bunkers - good, Greens - less than OK
Panthers Run: Good layout. Fairways - good, Bunkers - good, Greens - OK
I like the layout of Leopards Chase best but could play Panthers Run every day. Looking to play Tigers Eye soon.
@kladusky I'll be interested to hear your opinion once you play Tiger's Eye. Last summer, I was going to play Leopards Chase and the person booking the tee time read me a long disclaimer about the condition of the greens. I opted not to play after hearing the disclaimer. Sounds like the green's have not improved.

Thats always re-ensuring when they have to read you a Disclaimer when booking a tee time 🙂
I have always loved Leopards Chase, in my top 10 Myrtle Beach layouts and i have played apx 55 courses on the strand, just too bad it hasn't had the TLC.
On the advice of many we played Rivers Edge instead of The Big Cats. It was great. Very difficult but fair. Great winter conditions. Beautiful scenery.

It's a beauty.
Possibly #1 for scenery in the MB area.
This forum is very valuable .
