Forum Outing 2011 – Pre-Forum Rounds 6 and 7

The last day of the pre-pre-forum outing takes place in Myrtle Beach at the Dye Club at the Barefoot Resort.  This is my third round there, and Jeff’s second after playing there in last years Forum Outing.  Today, we are teeing off at 9:08, and are paired up with another pair of Signature Gold members, were very nice, and played quickly, which was great as we were trying to get 36 holes in before the forecasted [...]

Forum Outing 2011 – Pre-Forum Outing Rounds 4 and 5

Monday gets us all the way to Raleigh, North Carolina.  First on the list is Lochmere Golf Club - http://www.clubcorp.com/Clubs/Lochmere-Golf-Club.  Lochmere was built in 1985, and is a traditional woodland layout with lots of trees and water that comes into play on several holes.  We started on the back 9 just after 8am in brilliant sunshine.  It was going to be a hot day, and we needed to get to our next round for 2:30.  Struggling through [...]

Forum Outing 2011 – Pre-Forum Outing Rounds 2 and 3

The day started with lots of promise.  A brilliant blue sky, warm temperatures forecasted for the afternoon, and an early enough tee time that we could hopefully get 36 holes in.  My opening drive put me in good shape to score well on the first hole at Stonehenge, but no luck.  Double followed by another double, a bogie, my first par and a double.  By the time the smoke had cleared, I had a smooth 91, [...]

Forum Outing 2011 – Pre-Forum Outing Round #1

The first day of the trip has been a long one.  Jeff and I left the wilds of Canada very early, leaving the house at 3am.  Our destination - River Creek Club in Leesburg, Virginia - http://www.clubcorp.com/Clubs/River-Creek-Club.  Everything we looked at had a different arrival time.  Google Maps was saying 10.5 hours, MapPoint 8.5 hours, Bing Maps, 9.5 hours and the GPS was saying 8 hours.  It took us 9, so it was something in between! [...]

The End is Near!

OK.  It's October 31st.  I realize this is Canada and all, but snow on the ground!  That's a bit of a harsh end to the golf season.  My club was supposed to be open until the 7th of November (I know that's only one more week, but I could have played a couple more times...) The Ironman tournament yesterday was hard, with most pins set at the top of ridges (for those at the forum [...]

Forum Outing 2010 – Round 4: Farmstead

It was an early start to the day.  We were up early packing and getting ready for a long drive after the round.  I was limping a bit as I had pulled a muscle in my left leg (not sure how that happened, however it had been bugging me for a few days), however it was feeling better by the time we had loaded the truck, had breakfast, checked out and were driving up to [...]

Forum Outing 2010 – Round 3: Arrowhead

I've never played Arrowhead and I was looking forward to playing the course.  There was also talk of playing a nin hole scramble afterwards which is always one of the highlights of my forum outings, and it would give me the chance to play all three nines of the course.  It was another beautiful day at the beach.  Sunshine and brilliant blue skies for the third day in a row, this was easily the best [...]

Forum Outing 2010 – Round 2: Crow Creek

With two birdies on the day on my way to an 85, I finally won a skin.  In fact, all four of us won a skin.  There was a bit of confusion over which tee box should be played, however because we had started form the blues, we stayed back there.  Brian struggled a bit on the front nine, however, he figured it out at the ninth hole and finished the last 10 holes even [...]

Forum Outing 2010 – Round 1: Pearl West

The first official round of the forum outing was played at Pearl West this year and the day was perfect.  Sunshine was the order of the day and the course was in really good shape.  A few nasty pin positions (holes 11 and 12 come to mind) and we missed the gators on the front nine, however our foursome, my buddies Jeff and Marc along with Mike G and myself, all had a great afternoon [...]

Forum Outing 2010 – Pre-Forum Outing: The Dye Club

I didn't play well, however the day was still great.  I had a few good holes, and if it wasn't for my putting, my 88 would have been much higher. The weather was really good.  Starting out in brilliant sunshine, it later clouded up a bit, and sprinkled on us for a few holes near the end of the round.  Nothing unpleasant and the warm day certainly made up for it.  The course was tough [...]
