On this Saturday, May 3rd, once again under the sun with a nice 81 degrees, we're introducing a second course we've never played before: The Links at Brick Landing, located about fifty minutes from downtown Myrtle Beach, more precisely in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina.
This rather wooded route was built in 1987 and has recently undergone renovations and still being in renovations. Its layout follows the natural contours of the region, winding through the marshes and along the Intracoastal Waterway. Holes 1 and 18, among others, offer beautiful panoramic views.
Playing 6,030 yards from the white tees and 4,704 yards for the ladies (see scorecard at https://www.bricklandinggolf.com/scorecards/ ), it's a par 71 with a front nine about 600 yards shorter than the back nine. The fairways are narrow, and water can be a major factor on the vast majority of the holes. That's why it's so important to be precise in your game (favor finesse rather than power), otherwise it could cost you a lot of balls!
If you're like us, you'll probably enjoy the back nine more than the front nine, with holes 10 through 18 being more scenic.
As for the playing conditions, we have to be honest: we're on a "third tier" type course here, and the conditions absolutely cannot compare to those we had two days ago at Leopard's Chase. The drought affects, among other things, the tee boxes and fairways (the lack of grass is obvious). On the other hand, nothing to say against the sand traps, which were more than adequate. The greens? Great grass coverage, but certainly among the slowest we've had since our arrival in Myrtle Beach a dozen of days ago.
In any case, “local” players will likely tell you there are better options in the greater Myrtle Beach area. However, a “visitor” like us might want to treat themselves to this course, if only to add it to the set of courses they've already played around here.
Next round on Sunday May 4 at Sea Trail Byrd!

I already played at Brick Lan̈ding. Like you said, there is better options nearer of Myrtle Beach. So, i have not replayed this course since many years.
Thanks again for your reports.

I agree with S***H way better options then Brick Landing, but thanks for your take on it. Hopefully the Byrd Course will be better then it was in late March.
looks "interesting" Denis
Thanks for all the great reports and pics

The Brick is quirky. When the wind is blowing...very difficult and quirky.
I hope someday they figure out their greens issues. It's been 20+ years since I've played it when it had decent greens.
