Went on my first STJMGA trip.  We played Tradition, True Blue, & Caledonia.  56 players started at Tradition on Monday at noon.  I had a great day with a 76 - 3 birdies and an eagle at 9.  Greens were slow and were recovering from a recent punch. Tradition is right in front of you.....nothing hiding and a course you can go low on.  We stayed in the True Blue condos which weren't  bad but needing some upgrades soon.  Breakfast at True Blue was on point!  True Blue is an awesome course and always a treat - my 80 there could have been 5 shots better easily if the flat stick was in tune.  Caledonia on Wednesday was what it always is - a treat to play.  Had best round of the year there with a 74 - 4 birdies.   My team ate at Bistro 417 and Franks.....both very good.  We also had appetizers at PIT.   Overall great trip, but I would try Willbrook next year versus Tradition.  The STJ MGA has several hundred members and play weekly at one of our courses.  Great group!

Thanks for this great trip report. You played well on these golf courses. True Blue and Caledonia were designed by former Mike Strantz. My favorite golf architect. Instead of Tradition, have you think for next year about Prestwick? Many like this golf course on this board.

Good to have a large group to play with - and a nice trip without a long drive. Never played the STJ courses - looking forward to it one day.

If St James is still growing, are the courses filling up?
Need another Course?

The developer is getting ready to turn the POA Board completely over the residents.  Troon has purchased the clubs and is doing a fantastic job.  They want St James to be their flagship property.  We'll have four courses back open on August 1 after bunker and green renovation on the Reserve course.

Undercover pro - I may have an opening on Monday July 29.  I'll reachout later this week if it happens.  1010 tee time on our Founders Course (Gauntlet)

Strantz courses are my favorite....We lived 10 minutes from Tobacco Road before moving to St James.  Our group played Tot Hill Farm a couple of times a year also.  We lost Strantz way too early in his career.   GDZ

I have never played Tobacco Road and Tot Hill Farm. But i would like one day. Strantz was an artist et it is easy to recognise that talent on his courses.

Tobacco Road is a very interesting course to say the least. Not sure I'd want to play it all the time, but great on occasion. Lots of course knowledge required. Haven't had the pleasure of playing Tot yet.
