Southwest Airlines announced they will begin service to Myrtle Beach International this summer.

Big plus could be their bags fly free policy, which should include golf clubs.

It will be good if they add flights that cover golf season or all year,
instead of just summer.

With the travel and airline industries struggling, it's a good sign that they are adding routes.  I would imagine by next year they would at the very least add Spring.

It does. I've flown them to Orlando several times without any charge for my golf bag--although one time on a nonstop from Orlando to Norfolk, they managed to lose my golf bag. I don't hold that against them, and I've found over the years that they consistently have friendlier crews than the other domestic airlines. On a flight from Baltimore to Norfolk some years back the crew announced that they wouldn't be doing beverage service because it was their last flight of the day, and they were going to make the run in less than 20 minutes (the flight window is normally set at almost an hour, but it's a straight shot down the Chesapeake Bay without a whole lot of commercial air traffic in that corridor). We did, and everyone was happy that the crew could start their weekend a little earlier.

Great addition for Myrtle Beach.

That's great news for cities and people that will be served by this airline company!

Hopefully they'll add a direct flight out of the Northeast, either Boston or Providence. It would be REALLY nice to have an option other than Spirit.

Haven't they flown into MB previously? I could swear I flew from Charlotte to MB on a connecting flight probably 10-15 years ago.

No, and I've always found it surprising, given that they made their bones flying into/out of smaller airports.

Hopefully Chicago to MB.

Great to know. Thanks for the information. Hoping that they will extend this service in the off season also.

Count me as a big fan of SWA - was flying them back when you had to get there very early to get a good seat. Glad to see them come here, though they aren't as inexpensive as they use to be.

The report that I read said year round service.  This has been a long time coming.  There was an attempt for Southwest to come here a few years ago but they were wanting MYR to build them their own terminal and negotiations failed.

Good to have options.  Any word on where the flights are coming from?
