Played the Wizard yesterday, good weather temps in the low 60's, a bit of wind and overcast at times. This is a fun course to play, not overly difficult and nice spattering of holes mixed throughout the layout. All tee areas were near perfect, the fairways although soft in spots were thick and extremely green, we were able to drive everywhere, just had to watch for a few wet spots a couple of holes. Greens here are very quick, they accepted a good shot hit into them and they run smoothly, might be the fastest we have played so far this winter. Traps are deep in places and should be avoided ( better said then done ) and many require some sand as the low areas are crusty. Of the 3 Mystical Courses I would rate this one as the #2 course in terms of Layout, Witch is their best but is generally always wet this time of year. Man of War looked to be repairing cart paths and a large pile of sand can be seen so they are trying to fix bunkers there, hopefully the work will continue to the Wizard. We will be back for sure.
The Wiz is a good solid tier 4 course - and with their bent greens, a good spot in the winter and spring. I too like the layout of the Witch best - while not terrible, I wish it were in better condition.

Thanks for this great update. I like the finishing hole at this course. The Witch has a better design, but the Wizard is a fun and easy course to play.

The final 3 holes are nice ones, esp. with 17 into a 15 MPH wind.
18 at the Wiz is no pushover, and I think tougher than 16 cause of the water. 17 is a good par 3. JB - I like Man O War better than Wizard.

Agree about Man O War to me it is alot better than the wizard. Lots of water but not that much in play if hitting the driver in play.
Brownwood Bandit
Both courses are pretty easy with each having a few difficult holes. At Man o two of the par 5's play very long and while an easy par - they don't give up birdies too often. # 9 is one of the tougher par 4's in MB though they cut down some trees by the green. Both enjoyable - and at times, have the best public putting surfaces in MB with their bent grass.

MOW has an edge over the Wizard in terms of design. But it is fun to play both courses.

#18 at Wizard kills me every time I play there. There always seems to be 20 mph wind every time I play that hole. hahaaa
I also prefer MOW over Wizard. I think MOW might be favored because the pine
trees, although sparse, give it a better look than the mounds on Wizard.
Guessing that Wizard may have had the same kind of pine trees as MOW, the owner
and designer probably felt they shouldn't have both courses look alike, plus they needed
some place to put the dirt from digging the lakes.

MOW has a better look in my opinion - what I don't understand that as a golf course owner why they didn't have one clubhouse for the two courses - a lot less overhead that way and only one clubhouse to build. My big gripe is that at Wizard, you park a long way from the facility. Both courses are good to play - not the best, but very enjoyable - and a nice and easy 36 hole day on two very different layouts.

MOW + Wiz were built during the golf boom of the 1990's and trying to be different.
One bigger clubhouse would have saved $$ and still be saving $ with fewer employees.

Played The Wizz twice.
With a different forum member each time.
Played with 6542 Golf (Coach), then with Polekat.
Both times the greens,were very good.
The greens would accept approach shots-even if they are low to mid trajectory - and make a nice deep ball mark, which is pretty rare in the Myrtle Beach area, but it is very common in Northern states.
even the dirt underneath the green is more like brown, northern dirt .
A darker brown than found at other MB courses.
The new greens in the MB area (Rivers Edge, Arcadian Shores) are nice and roll good, but will not accept a shot like The Wizz will.
