Has anyone played Oyster Bay recently?  It is my father in law's favorite course in Myrtle Beach.  We have not played it in over 5 years.  The conditions are always bad leading up to when we will be arriving so we have not put in our rotation.  No need to play a bad conditioned course with so many other options.  Any insight on the conditions would be greatly appreciated

With most MB trips canceled this March/April, we don't have many reports
plus many have been staying away from OB.

Heritage Super JKH75 posted this recently:
Iit is our intention to bring OB back to our standard.
It has made great progress in the year since new a superintendent
started. Not overseeding the last two winters has paid off tremendously in overall
conditions of turf, other than months of Feb/March where non overseed is inferior
to overseeding. Greens are improved as well.    We may go back to overseeding
fairways at Oyster this year. We have not made final decision on that yet.

I am thinking that if you are in MB in the summer or fall, that will be a better
time to play OB and poor winter reports will become outdated.

We played OB back in Dec. and conditions had not really changed much from the past years, very old looking and shabby around the edges.  Many say it is a different course in the warmer weather, enough good holes on it to try a play IMO.  They still offer breakfast lunch and 2 drinks with your round.

OB has a nice layout and conditions are usually good to excellent.

I've played it a few times over the past 3 or 4 years.  This has been (mostly) in July & September.  I have not had a bad experience there in a while.  Greens have been good each time.

@artmbgolfmb Oyster is improving since new super started. It has only been a year though, it will be a 3 year process to bring it back. Greens and Fairways are improved in year one. Tees on some holes are in need of renovation, we will address that this summer.

It is important to note that 6 green is much improved but the shade conditions are tough. The trees causing the shade on 6 green are not on golf course property and therefore we can't remove them without owners permission. It is also worth noting that Sunset Beach has the most stringent tree removal ordinances on the Grand Strand, this is an additional hurdle all courses in Sunset Beach's jurisdiction must deal with.

@jkh75 you seem to know a lot about Oyster Bay, when will the course be doing summer maintenance?
