Calling on the forum members for any other picks for hidden gems, preferably toward the central/north end of the strand, but interested in any of them. Already planning a Fall trip and my group was very happy with Wilbrook which I booked based on your advice.

Glen Dornoch looks interesting, but I do not see much hype about it. I wonder if it is just the finishing holes.

Thank you in advance.

River Hills would be considered a hidden gem as would Brunswick Plantation. IMHO.

Agree with Jay and would add Crow Creek and The Thistle to your list.  Last 3 finishing holes at GD are good, 16's 2nd shot is the white knuckler, if you do choose GD play the right tees for your game to make your day a good one.

Rivers Edge, although I am not a fan of the often slow greens.

The Pearl, Arrowhead, Prestwick.

Not hidden and premium:  Grande Dunes Resort, Tidewater

My list would be Brunswick Plantation, Crow Creek, and Meadowlands. All are usually in very good condition. Also, Sandpiper Bay was in nice shape this past winter.

Meadowlands offers the consistently best conditions at a bargain price.  The Willard Byrd course is a challenge and fun to play.  Good shots are rewarded.  Consistent quality conditions allow for the best scoring opportunities.

Don't know how to define hidden gems.

My "good value" courses are Meadowlands, Carolina National, Brunswick and River Hills.

Playing Sea Trails Byrd for first time this October and glad to hear it mentioned.

Glen Dornoch has a bunch of really good holes, not just 16-18.  Plus, it's very reasonable to play there.  We play it almost every year in one of the afternoons we play 36 and it's never been over $70.  And the course is wide open at that point and you can fly, which is nice.

I echo what @ArtMBgolf said about Rivers Edge.  It's a wonderful course but the greens are pretty slow.

We played the Pearl last year for the first time in over 20 trips to MB.  Everyone in our group really liked that course.

my old HIDDEN GEM list...

The Witch

Heather Glen

Farmstead....they are very well hidden now ..and they were gems until they all got demolished. ????

my new HIDDEN GEM list...

WORLD TOUR ... (Central) always in great shape, some cool holes

ARROWHEAD ...  (Central) always in great shape, some cool holes along the waterway

RIVER HILLS ...  (North) another course usually in great shape. only drawback is homes on every hole.

RIVERS EDGE ... (far North) best scenery of any MB course IMO

THE PEARL ... (North) my girlfriend Pearl is getting great reviews recently. They closed 9 holes which makes the other 27 easier to maintain. No homes on the course. You can see Oyster Bay across the marsh. Golf Heaven in my opinion. ????

A recent report here at MBGT had The Pearl ranked as the best conditioned course of the 7  premium courses they played.

When Pearl is in good shape she is irresistible ????

..........................

ECONOMICAL hidden gems  ( when in good shape)

DIAMONDBACK and

CROWN PARK .... both courses (North) along Rt9 and I thought they were great courses for the money they charge. Both courses have no homes and are pretty serene

SHAFTBURY GLEN ... (Central) Another serene course (with homes only on the 18th hole) that is pure golf with no distractions. Never heard many complaints about this course and the couple times I've played the conditions were good ( except one time after hurricane type weather when a couple holes flooded )

.........................

GLEN DORNACH ? ... I DO consider this a hidden gem. I drive right by the entrance and miss the signs pointing towards the course.

I don't care what anyone says about the last 3 holes. We aren't going to MB to break scoring records. We are going to relax and enjoy some nice scenery and play some golf.

If your group has wagers, the last 3 holes will make things intersting.

I highly recommend this gem. I love it.

................

Good to see you are again coming back to MB Rugby. Enjoy the planning friend! ????

A good course but not a gem because of normal conditions there

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have probably played 30-35 courses now in Myrtle, but many of these remain on my list.

JW11 totally agree with the Witch. So sad to see that go. Our group stumbled upon that course as a last minute screw it we are 5 mins away and lets play another 18 decision. The conditions were average and the club house left much to be desired, but what a unique layout they had. Really felt like you were in a Carolina swamp at times. We all had fond memories of that place.
