I learned a long time ago that while in MB I needed to hit at least one more club, so I agree with what everyone has said about sea-level and humidity.  I also think the point about no run-up shots is also quite valid.

My ego does not keep me from hitting whatever club is needed to get me a particular distance.  Age will do that to you.

- but I'm still hitting a half club more on King's North Gambler

If you study the green on King North's Gambler #6, from green high, you will see that the
left side is deeper than the right side.   Anyone playing middle of the green yardage, based
on the left side, will not carry the water on the right side.   If using a laser, you probably
would not get tricked by that.   Most shots I see from the island, mine included, come up
short in the water.

I aim for that little bunker on the left side of the green and try to hit the shot with a small cut. The island is easier for me to hit than the fairway on the right - even if I can't reach the green in two from the island. A good layup to the right fairway leaves a 56 or 60 degree sand wedge right at the hole. Play it longer than your laser shoots the distance.

My good drive in Illinois is 240

In MB it's 220.

Well, I started this discussion so I might as well try to finish it.

I played again today and the temp was just about 50. And while the course was damp and soft in spots, leaving little roll on drives, there was a definite reduction in yardage carry with everything. I'd estimate at least 10%. The best struck shots were always at least one more club. So, I'm just chalking it up to major components; temperature and sea level. I did find an article from Titleist that addresses temperature. I'll add the link below. But my take on this article and the one posted yesterday about altitude is the effects of both have both been tested with highly skilled players. I'm personally a low single digit handicap but when I play with guys who are scratch or better, I feel like a hacker. I'm sure the yardage loss for a less than the highly skilled player is increased.

When I'm in MB, I'm always thinking about at least one more club!

It's even more true while I'm becoming... older! 😉

For our guys this year seems to be pretty tough getting any decent distance.  Noticing thinner fairways that makes us want to try to pick the ball rather then hit it like back home, that and the no roll hurts as well..  Courses like Man of War and Wizard with the bent grass seem to play easier in terms of distance as we feel more confident of not taking a large mound of mud if we hit it a bit to thick.  But as everyone is saying the balls back home fly better and further then here in MB.
