After the typical good breakfast at the Caravelle, Jeff and I headed out to the Barefoot Resort to play a familiar friend, the Dye Club. We got there in good time, hit some balls and headed out to the first tee. Opening shots were nice and straight, straight into the bunker on the left. This was to be a theme for me today, it was like “Welcome to the Beach”! I was in a bunker of some sort for three of the first four holes, and then in a lot more during the rest of the round. I became very proficient except for the fairway bunker on the par 5 #16 where I hit my second shot in, stayed in with my third and fourth, on the green in five and two putt for seven. With one triple on the round (thanks to thinning two wedges back and forth across the green on #4), I finished the round with a 91.
The second round I was starting to feel my age. Tired from the long day yesterday, and a slow back nine for the first round due to the foursome we caught on #9, my swing was really affected. With a triple on #2 after hitting my drive nicely in the fairway, I shanked two balls into the water on the par 3 #6 to help get me to +14 for the front. A thinned wedge on #10 led to another triple, and then shanks from the fairway on #13 and #14 made me realize that my day was done. I just caddied for Jeff who made a great birdie on the par 3 #15.
Dinner, hot tub, and early to bed. Off to Murrell’s Inlet and Wachesaw Plantation Club tomorrow.
