Our final Forum warm-up day and another new course on this trip.  There’s been a recent thread on Wachesaw Plantation Club, and it has been talked up pretty big.  Both Jeff and I were looking forward to a more traditional layout given the ‘fun’ we had on Dye yesterday, and we were impressed as we drove in.

The staff at the course was great and soon we were checked in, loaded up and headed to the range where we hit some balls and Jeff scared himself on the practice green.  We then headed to #1.  My perfectly straight drives on the practice range yielded a pull and a tree hit on the left side.  I still pulled off a bogie followed by a par on #2.  The first two holes were good starting holes, allowing you to swing away and get used to the course.  Tee to green the course was excellent.  Then we got to the par 3 #3.  It was fantastic with lots of bunkers and tall grasses everywhere.  The next few holes were also great, and #7, the next par 3 with water on the left was fantastic!  The last two holes on the nine were also good holes, and I played well with the exception of a fat approach on 9 and a missed short put for a double.  41 on the front side.

The back nine also started out with some great holes, however the last four were really nice, especially the long par 3 #17 and the par 5 #18 with water on the left and the river behind the green.  Jeff chipped onto the green and we watched it slowly run off the far side as the green slopes sharply right to left.  It’s a great finishing hole with golfers drinking beer on the patio above.  I didn’t play as strongly on the back, shooting a 47 for 88 in total.  With the weather holding off, it was a great day.

We headed back to the Caravelle to clean up and meet up with the others for a drink.  First official round tomorrow.  It will be good to see everyone.
