Close to our 20th trip and this year we had 8 golfers - 3 from NJ, 1 from GA and 4 from FL (transplants from up north)
Lodging - Cherry Grove Villas
We had a 6 bedrm, 5 bath unit
Across the street fro beach, near stores and restaurants
Unit ok - furniture (couches, chairs) could use replacement and not the cleanest unit on Earth - bedspread had stains, and pool table broke right to left
But all kitchen stuff worked and generally, everything was fine
Pool and hot tub available also
Having Boulineau’s (a grocery store and lots more) near by was great if you needed groceries or a meal.
On arrival got takeout from The Shack - average
Golf - Sea Trail Byrd, The Pearl East/West, Leopard Chase, Tidewater
Mostly played from senior tees, or hybrid.
1. Sea Trail Byrd - nice course, easiest course of four
Tees, fairways, greens in good shape
Greens fairly fast but hard, nothing stuck
Fairways soft so shots hit short never ran up
Pace of play good
Staff friendly
Only negative - a lot of land being cleared right next to course for homes
Not sure will want to play there once complete
Lunch at Boundary House - the BLT had an amazing amount of bacon
2. The Pearl played East and West
Pleasantly surprised by excellent course conditions
Greens very tough due to undulations
A couple of holes layout a little confusing and partially blind - like #9
2nd favorite course
Lunch at Crab Catcher’s was good - nice sitting out by waterway
3. Leopard Chase
I think everybody's favorite course - beautiful, not crowded basically had course to ourselves
Greens very large and undulating - not a lot of friendly pin placements
Frustrating actually - a 3 or 4 putt-fest doesn’t encourage replays IMHO
Some guys spent the afternoon at The Cigar Shop - recommended
4. Tidewater
Windy, but that's pretty common there
Honestly, slightly disappointed
In pretty good shape and plenty of character holes but nothing special, especially compared to LC
Range, clubhouse, dining all first rate
Had a fun dinner at Snooki’s and also some good Cuban food at Cuban Bar & Restaurant.
Weather great the whole time there - not too hot or cold, mostly cloudy which is fine.
Overall, a very good trip.
Thanks for the report. Glad you enjoyed the trip.
Thanks for the report, LC over Tidewater, not a common opinion.
LC has been getting good reports, but it seems like many are not
confident in any Big Cats conditions. The challenge and trailer
clubhouse may keep some away.
Thank for your report!
