The more I play year round in the area, the more I see that when comparing courses, on balance, some are better in the summer, some are better in the winter. We played Crow Creek earlier this week. The overseed was very good and the greens were firm and fast. FOR WINTER CONDITIONS, they were the best I have seen this season. To qualify that, I have only played about eight different "northern" courses from North Myrtle up to Carolina National. We didn't have to deal with the super tight fairway lies. The greens, while firm, were very true. If you are looking for a "northern" area course to play, you will be glad you put Crow Creek on the list.
Commuter between North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
It sounds like Crow Creek has a thick fairway overseed.
Some photos I have seen at other courses show a pretty thin
fairway overseed, just enough to show some green, also
possibly hurt by the cold spells. The fairway overseed usually
continues to improve over time, until heat kills it off.
Crow Creek also has bent greens, which will provide some of the
best greens in the winter and spring.
