I played at Whispering Pines today. Except for the greens, the conditions are pretty good. A good design for a golf course builted on a former air and military base of the USA.

I was very impressed by the recognition given to the Major Generals, Generals, Lieutenant Generals, etc,  on each hole and at the clubhouse. Most of them has served the USA during WWII, in the Pacific, and Japan in particular. Many has retired in the seventies and many has passed away now.

WPines is a good design.  It is supposed to be renovated this summer.

If they want more play and more $$, they need to get into the packager's
lists.   But maybe they want to keep it more for the locals.

Thanks!

Just by curiosity, I made some research concerning the history of Whispering Pines. The first nine holes were originally built in 1962 by military personnel on the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. In 1986, the Texas-based firm Finger, Dye, and Spahn added the additional nine holes and renovated the original nine, creating the current 18-hole course.

WP is often under the radar when it is time to select a course. But it is a good course to play in Myrtle Beach. WP is ownned by the City. The project approved by the City for 2025 will include new greens, bunker renovations, tree removal, and a new irrigation system. The course will close for the greens and bunker renovations from late May to September 1. The greens will be changed to Sunday ultradwarf Bermudagrass. A new irrigation system will really help control water flow on the course.

i think those renovations will improve the golf course in the future and increase the revenues of the City.

Thanks @s333h for this report about a course that I played only once, but did appreciate my golf experience down there!

Thanks for the update to WP. I enjoyed my time when I played there even after a pretty rocking storm that night before, they had no power but still made sure to take care of us.

Hannah had her first ever birdie at that course so to her it has a special place.

We have played WP a couple times in recent years when flying into MB.  Grab our luggage, rent car, drive across the street and tee it up.  I really like the layout.  Depending upon which tees you play, it is sneaky long.
