I'm in love. Just outside of Raliegh is the NC State golf course - a Palmer/Seay design that is well designed, beautiful, and dramatic. If you get a chance while driving to or from MB - try and get on at Lonnie Poole

Place is very cool, Superintendent Brian Green and his team do an excellent job there.
Pics don't do it justice - if you ever get a chance - play it

Thanks UGP.
Heading up there next week. Lonnie Poole was recommended to me along with...Mill Creek.
Anyone here played Mill Creek?
I played Mill Creek a few years ago as part of an outing for the industry I work in. I thought the design was outstanding and there are some spectacular holes. A few of the greens were a little sandy but they putted fine. The rest of the course was in great shape. I would play it again in a heartbeat.
Raleigh Country Club is apparently very tough after the renovation -- I actually know a few people who said it was so hard that it just wasn't even fun to play and they have no interest in ever going back (they're not members of RCC, but they are McConnell members so they have access to play whenever).
I haven't been on it myself, though.
@uncgolf
All summer every summer from the time I was 5 til I was 15 Mom dropped us off at 9:00 and Dad picked us up at 5:20. I've played that course 1,000's of times. I can describe every hole and green complex of the old layout to this day! I picked up the range for "3 hole playing lessons after work" with Sammy Brewer, Billy Newton and Billy Harrell countless times. I owe my passion for the game and my career in Golf to those 3 gentleman!! You know me, I love a ridiculously hard golf course, sounds like it's right up my alley! As long as they didn't screw up the last design Donald Ross ever did, I'll be happy! Cant wait to tee it up there again ... played 16, 17 and 18 a balizzions times. We have 45 minutes til they get here, lets run out and play the last 3. Eating crab apples off the tree by 15 green ... shoot, I know that place!! Sure enough, the car would be parked behind the 18th green with Mom, arms folded, leaning on the car MAD, LOL!!
