Played this calabash, NC for first time.  Only other course i had played in this area was Farmstead which i liked but has closed permanently. Course is right down the road from Meadowlands.  Course was in really nice shape.  Fairways not traditional MB bermuda grass.  reminded me of fairways from up north where i am from.  ball sits up if in fairway.  everything was green/plush for this early in season.  greens have a lot of break and were some of the most receptive i have played in MB this year.  Pretty forgiving off the tee.  couple of tough par 3's that are surrounded or fronted by water.  #8 comes to mind - on day i played from whites tee, pin was back and it was 180 yds to pin and carry was all over water.  water right up until green surface.  big boy par 3.  can't imagine playing it from blues or heaven forbid blacks.   on these 2 par 3's all 5 sets of tees you had to carry water to get to the pin.  some nice looking holes and layout was nice.  4 1/2 round with 130pm tee time.  really nice clubhouse/restaurant.  great practice facility with range, chipping area. couple putting greens.  only complaint is they don't seem to have enough carts.  at this course practice area is across the street, where you go under the road to get to it.  not really walkable.  they let you take carts but they didn't have any available to me until 10 minutes before tee time.  They have an oversized golf cart shuttle service that fits 5 at a time. not ideal.  got there an hour before tee time and felt rushed as what not informed about shuttle to range.  discovered on our own.  didn't even get to practice putt.

will know better next time.  good course and reasonably priced.  will be back.

Crow Creek may have different range procedures based on booking
volume and workers.  I have been there where there was a starter
across the road, so those teeing off #1 could go to the range with
their cart and the starter would monitor teeing off.

Crow Creek must have a heavy overseed in the fairways.
It will die off in the heat and bermuda will take over.

Thanks for your reports!

You should check out River's Edge, Thistle, and the Pearl in NC -- they're all better courses than Crow Creek IMO.

Leopard's Chase and Tiger's Eye are as well, assuming they're able to keep the apparently improved conditions going.

Thanks for your report and thoughts on Crow Creek, it is a good course to play we find over the winter months, many better then average holes that will test all skill levels.

@uncgolf thanks have played Rivers Edge and Thistle (love it).  Never Pearl.  used to play the Cats years ago but then conditions deteriorated without the price going down so took it off our rotation.  now that i live here might have to get out and try them in offseason when rates are low.

What I like about CC is that there are few hidden hazards or blind shots.  It is what I call a "straight-up" golf course.  I do wonder how long they will continue with bent grass greens.  Very difficult to maintain in hot & humid conditions.  The customer service is great and they have a very nice clubhouse.

Now that you live in MB, you should get one or more Passport, Prime Times, Trail cards, then rates are
like off season all year.

I spoke to the Pro at Crow Creek and played with a member, just
after CC upgraded to new V8 Bent greens in 2017.   They had test greens at
the far end of the range, to help them decide which grass they would use, so
they put a lot of thought into it, to be different.    The V8 bent is supposed to
be heat resistant.

I don't know how well it does in the summer.  Best time will be winter and Spring.

@artmbgolf  yeah already did.  have Myrtle beach passport, and the Legends membership to take advantage of range.  Like Healthland, Heritage, and Parkland is good.  hate moorland and not a fan of Osyter Bay.  love the practice facilities.

thanks

@bri1164 Leopard's Chase is apparently back in excellent condition (at least for the moment) and Tiger's Eye is supposedly pretty good too.

I played at CC last August and the greens were horrendous.

Played Crow Creek March 23. CPO.  Fairways fully overseeded and plush.  Ball sits up in fairway.  Rain started about hole three and continued until the turn, then beautiful rest of the way.  There were spots with casual water but course seemed to drain well. Greens, as well as entire course, in excellent shape. A clear notch above previous days conditions.
