Carolina Trace and Mid South in Pinehurst

Finished up our 4 day trip on two outstanding golf courses.Carolina Trace is a private club the allows outside play. It's 40 minutes from where we stayed and built around a couple of very large lakes. Very hilly, many greens are up on top of hills and downhill to the par 3's. Two great courses with incredibly difficult greens to putt. Well worth the drive. I had my Rickie Fowler round for the 4 days and not proud of it!Mid South WOW - another fantastic Palmer design that tests all your clubs. Beautifully bunkered, somewhat hilly. Great condition, no problem playing the ball down. Greens rolled a lot like Surf Club - fast and slopey. I haven't played a lot of the Pinehurst courses - can't imagine many better than Mid South. Great practice facilities too. It's a course you want to play often. In fact Bandit's buddy Steve and I played an extra 18 after the group of 32 in the morning. Teed off at 4.14 and finished all 18 at 6.25. Thankfully my game came back that morning after the one day hiatus! Get yourself to MS - worth the drive from MB - leave at 6 am - tee off at 9, play 36 and head home.

Nice to have Pinehurst close - it's just over 2 hours from MB. Different kind of courses with the hills. I like MB better - and it's a lot less expensive to play.

Golf is just an excuse to drink whiskey and smoke cigars
