For those of you who don't know, Alan Blondin has left The Sun News in June after 29 years - the last 23 as the golf writer - and he is now editor in chief and senior writer for On the Green Magazine. They have made On The Green a current Myrtle Beach area golf news website that will be regularly updated with news articles and other features including a Know Your Pro segment highlighting area golf pros and weekly instruction series featuring five Grand Strand teachers. This week, it is Marc Guertin, Head Professionnal, at Caledonia. It will be a good source of information concerning the latest headlines and happenings in Myrtle Beach area. The link is: https://www.onthegreenmagazine.com/

I signed up for the OTG newsletter.

The Sun News has been dying.  Many places that had a Sun News box to sell
it don't have the old box now.   And how many people have $3 in quarters in
there pocket if they see a Sun News box?  🙂

I signed also to receive the free newsletter. Best way to receive an update concerning golf news in Myrtle Beach. Alan Blondin was probably, when he was with the Sun News, the only golf writer for this journal. It is a weekly newsletter. No Spam and you can unsubscribe anytime. No brainer for us.

Looks like the new On The Green is tied in with Golf Trek (Brian's previous gig).  Will be interesting to see if OTG becomes more of a vehicle to sell golf packages.

@brewcrew

If you are talking about this line in the OTG newsletter subscribe, it
looks like possibly a web developer copied something from
Golftrek when setting up OTG  or  it's a tricky way to get us to sign
up for Golftrek's emails.

@artmbgolf The first thing I notice was the caricature of Alan on the OTG website.  Same style that Golf Trek used.  A deeper dive also shows Alan's picture on the Golf Trek site.  Last year, after Brian left Golf Trek, my trip package was taken over by Jason Himmelsbach.  Name rang a bell and Jason confirmed his family published the OTG and the On The Beach publications.

Just makes me wonder if Alan will be giving us unbiased Myrtle golf info or promoting golf packages.

  • Jason Himmelsbach worked for The Glens Group for years. This group packaged golf at Glen Dornoch, Heather Glen, Shaftesbury Glen, Possum Trot and Wicked Stick. They also accommodated golf at most Grand Strand courses. Lots of connections here…. Hopefully we get good info at all the locations we enjoy.

Good evidence points.   It does look like Golf Trek is at least a sponsor of OTG, if
not more.

Golf Trek had bought the Glens package business, which is how Brian and
Jason H ended up working there, as far as I know.

The Alan articles on OTG look unbiased to me, just MB inside news.

I signed up for OTG emails, (not Golftrek), but have not received anything yet.

I heard from Al that Golf Trek did buy OTG.
He said subscriber emails will start to be sent soon.

I did receive my first email from OTG after subscribing.  It did initially end up in the spam folder
