River Oaks Bear 9 is permanently closed for re-development. Property was sold for 3 million. This is the nine that was supposed to close a couple years ago but it fell through. Not anymore.

Let the Big Dawg Bark!!!
Sad news once again!
That said, I don't think River Oaks Bear 9 was very popular among Forum members here, but maybe locals did appreciate! 🙁
Thanks for the info @1putt1.

The Bear nine was not renovated, when the other 2 nines were renovated a
few years ago. Now if you play RO, you will get the better 2 nines.
I think Founders got some decent courses with the land for that $$ or less.
I wonder if this will affect decisions about the closed 9 at World Tour.
Does it get more attractive for housing or golf?
In the long run, course closures may affect locals getting tee times during
busy seasons, more so than package players, who book months in advance.

The lead may have been buried. From the article:
"Manning said he is not done purchasing area golf courses. He said he is negotiating with the owner of another course in Horry County that he plans to purchase in 2022 and close for redevelopment, though he declined to name the course. “It’s closing. It’s not going to be operating anymore. The owners have already made that decision,” Manning said. “It’s already zoned [for housing].” “. . . Right now is a pretty good time for golf course landowners to sell land if they choose to do so. The golf market has recovered somewhat in the last year or so, but it’s still not a very lucrative business to operate a golf course relatively speaking, so for so many owners it’s easier to sell the land and close the operations.”
Ouch.

Unfortunately that undisclosed course is Glen Dornoch. Better put it on the "must play" list as it will likely close down some time in 2022.
@mbgt-golf-gourse-reviewer Where did you hear that?
I was thinking it would be Man O' War considering both of their other courses are closing.
Glen Dornoch closing for another subdivision will be a traffic disaster. They'd have to widen 17 in Little River.
@uncgolf they’re putting 2 new turning lanes and 2 new traffic lights in that area right now.
Glen Dornoch closing may be an old rumor.
I played it Oct 10. They finally have new greens that are good.
I also noticed that they have sodded a lot of bare areas, so why do
that if closing in 2022?
I guess a offer they can't refuse will always buy the land.
I would think a housing developer would pay a lot more for the land
than some RV park company. That land does not appear to drain
so well.

@artmbgolf I expect Glen Dornoch to close eventually -- they could sell lots on the waterway for a lot of money, and Possum Trot and Heather Glen have both closed in recent years so the management group could be looking to get out entirely.
I hope it lasts a few years longer, though.
Yeah if it is Glen Dornoch i would be mad, havent played it yet.

I just played Glen Dornach last Friday. I asked a few people there, pro shop bag guys, ranger after hearing this news from some locals about the sale/closing.
They swore that it wasn’t true and said that the course owners had recently put in a couple million dollars in improvements.
I thought that the course was in great condition and has always been a favorite of mine in this area
Ive heard this story for many years now about a sale. I hope that it’s not true as it’s a special location with the holes along and with a river view and many fun holes to play there.
It was very busy with golfers the day we played. We were able to get out for a replay of 9 holes, but would have preferred to play 2 full rounds
