We started in 1999 visiting our buddy Mike Ciccone in Little River when he owned Pat & Mike's Irish Pub back then. We'd stay in Calabash and play courses up in that area; River Hills, Eagles' Nest, Brunswick, Thistle, Pearl, etc. Sadly, Mike passed away in 2006 and we continued the trip but moved down to the central area staying first at Myrtlewood and then at Legends for a few years each.
Around 2010, we moved to Horizons at 77th Ave and that worked well for us for about 10 years or so. They had large 2 and 3 br condos that worked well for us. Unfortunately for us, many of those units are getting sold and taken off the rental market. Last year we got shut out and had to scramble for lodging. Since all the guys want their own room, our options were limited. We found decent accommodations at the Staybridge suites near 17 and 501. Nice 2 br suites, nice hotel, weird location.
So this year we are trying something new. We're staying at 3dr condos at True Blue and playing 4 courses down there; TB, Prestwick, Pawley's and River Club.
I wanted to throw out a question to the forum about bars for after round drinks and restaurants near True Blue. I've read many of the posts in the dining forum but most are a bit dated and not sure if they are still relevant.
Has anyone stayed down in that area and can recommend a good after round bar and a few decent restaurants? Our group is getting long in the tooth and not really interested in late night stuff.
Thanks
I don't remember reading any groups staying at Horizon on 77th.
I had looked at that and held it on reserve. Bluegreen bought all the 3BR.
Grande Shores only has about 5 1BR + 5 2BR in Horizon now.
If you haven't played True Blue, it can be interesting to stay there after golf and
watch others play #18.
A little north of TB, on the other side of 17 is the Upscale Frank's, where you
probably need a reservation.
Also on 17 closer to TB entrance is Gio's for good Italian.
If you drive to MB, consider Prestwick on your last day, to reduce your drive some.
