Pete Dye, who died at the age of 94 last Thursday, left his mark on the Myrtle Beach golf market. In his life, he has designed more than 130 golf courses. Which golf course built by him is your favorite in Myrtle Beach? If it is reasonable to ask you, explain your choice below.
I have not played Debordieu, so i can not judge. I choose Barefoot Dye over Founders Club (former Gauntlet). Both are tough to play. In fact, Barefoot Dye is a great challenge. And i like challenges.

Where is Moorland and The ever greatest course Prestwick? I voted for best on your list not my favorite.
Let the Big Dawg Bark!!!
I would also pick Prestwick. Very difficult but always in good condition.
Moorland was built by P.B. Dye, his son. He opened in 1990. Prestwick was built by Pete and P.B. Dye, together.

I would go with Barefoot Dye over Prestwick though I like them both very much. My overall favorite Dye design is the Ocean Course at Kiawah.
Prestwick. Toughest course on the grand strand when the greens are rolling
I will agree on Prestwick, greens are tough, but not crazy, approach shots have to be spot on and you must avoid the bunkers around the greens. Of the ones you have listed I chose Founders because when I played it the conditions were fantastic and layout very playable. Debordieu was a let down until holes 17 and 18, and have never really liked the Dye course at Barefoot, but that said will play it if my friends want to play as well..
I'll take DeBordieu over Barefoot Dye seven days a week. It's a more sedate Dye course, with ancient oak trees dotting the fairways, better conditioning and a handful of memorable holes. Problem with Barefoot Dye is ... no trees and crappy bunker/rough conditioning. It's been a while since playing St. James Founders (wasn't that originally called the Gauntlet?), but I would favor that over Barefoot Dye as well by a small margin.
Yes. Founders Club was originally the Gauntlet. He opened in 1991.
Matter of fact, Pete Dye co-designed with his son P.B. Dye the DeBordieu Club in Georgetown, which opened in 1987.

Prestwick is a very nice one. I readed recently in the news that Pretswick was named “One of the Five Best Kept Secret Golf Courses In America” in 2004 by Golf Digest, and it was ranked No. 5 among Pete Dye-designed courses in America by the Golf Advisor rating and review site.

Once you get down we can get in a game at Prestwick by March it should be in even better shape.
Surely. Maybe UGP can join us also?? It would be fun to play together. Prestwick is high on my list.

I voted Debordieu, but I only played it once (with 1Putt1), which makes it harder
to compare. I played Gauntlet/Founders St James a few times, but not lately.
BF Dye has been played by a higher % of MBGT members.
It's probably better to include Pete + PB Dye courses, since most will consider
it a Dye course. I think I would still take Debordieu, but I prefer Moorland
without the crowds over Prestwick.

It makes sense Art. I made the distinction between Pete and P.B. But both have worked together on many projects. I am guessing that it is also the case for Moorland.

I thought DeBordieu was originally just a Pete Dye design. However after further research I found an article from 1985 which confirms that DeBordieu was indeed both a Pete Dye and PB Dye collaboration. According to the piece "(Pete) Dye said that he and his son P.B. will oversee construction of the new course." DeBordieu general manager also said "its residents are elated that the Dyes have agreed to design their new course."
More interesting is that the article also stated "the present nine hole course will be redesigned and nine more holes will be built." I've yet to figure out the name & designer of the original 9 hole course.
