Hey all, we have our annual Myrtle Beach golf trip the end of September this year, and we have Wild Wing on the itinerary.  I was wondering if anyone has played it recently or heard about how it looks after their July course maintenance / shutdown.  Would love to hear a recent review on how the course is looking / playing presently.

I have heard, not played, that the greens are still poor at Wild Wing.
Below photos were sent to me.     I suggest that you replace WW.
The greens have been bad for at least a year.   They were bad when I played
WW in Oct 2024.
Likely replacing is the only option and that will have to wait until next year.

Appreciate the quick response @artmbgolf.  Was hoping this wasn't the case as Wild Wing is always one of our favorites.  Thanks for the heads-up.

I have not heard what happened.   I suspect that when the hybrid bermuda greens
don't improve during a wet + hot summer, that possibly a bad or wrong chemical
got used.

While they could improve some by your trip, I doubt they would be good enough
for you to enjoy.     In situations like this, they are never as good as the pro shop says
or the grass might be good but a stimp of 5.

Prestwick, Arrowhead, Pearl, TW, Grande Dunes get good reports.

Gotcha @artmbgolf.  Hate to hear it.  We actually already swapped out Burning Ridge for Arrowhead in our itinerary so atleast glad to hear Arrowhead is one of those courses you listed with good reports.

We're looking to now swap out Wild Wing with a course around that same area.  Would welcome your thoughts on swapping out Wild WIng for MBN West, MBN South Creek, the two Myrtlewood courses, or Pine Lakes.  Of course, at this point, open to any other suggestions you would have but trying to stay around that general area (i.e. Pine Lakes would probably be the furthest we'd want to go).

@cxc491

MBN West is a forgiving course, with no houses, that may cost a little less than WW.
MBN South has housing.
These are about equal to Myrtlewood.
Kings North doesn't reopen from renovations to back 9 until Oct.

Pine Lakes will cost more.  All the courses are more expensive now, especially the
more premium courses.

World Tour has been reliable for conditions and is mostly forgiving, if you are OK with the cost.

Legends is an option.

MOW + Wizard are risky with bent greens stressed in the summer.

I can't couch for conditions on these courses, but I haven't heard anything like Wild Wing.

Report back after your trip.

Ok @artmbgolf, appreciate you sharing your thoughts on course selection / replacement.  Set a reminder to post a trip report on course conditions for the courses we play after our trip  🙂

yeah as ARTMBgolf mentioned greens just not up to past WW standard. live here since 2023 but been coming down since 2020 and worse i have seen them.  like you it was a favorite of ours, even more so when 3 tracks.    Played 7/30/25 and green issue still the case.  tees and fairways fine... although at that time MB was in middle of a 5-6 week span of really heavy rain so was cart path only but still playable.  i would say ok if you are local and just driving to course to play, but i have guys come down for their vacation and would not take them here based on condition.

Appreciate the reply @bri1164 .  We swapped out our Wild Wing round for Prestwick.  Still, definitely going to miss out on playing Wild Wing and just hoping the course comes back to its usual conditions next year.

@cxc491 think that was smart play.  played Prestwick in June and it was in good shape.  nice improvements made.  as long as excess rain didn't affect them you will enjoy!!

Awesome @bri1164, glad to hear Prestwick looked good and everything we're hearing is Prestwick's playing nice at the moment.  Definitely looking forward to our trip down.
