In 2001 there was over 120 golf courses in Myrtle Beach. Now, maybe 90 are still open. Amongst those closed, some were very appreciated in this forum. I would like to know which one you will miss the most and for why. I choosed Heather Glenn but Possum Trot was also one of my favorites. Please, choose just one.

The Witch was probably the course I played most when coming down. Years ago when the site used to have auctions for a Christmas charity, I won Witch green fees. Played it once and always enjoyed it when coming back, especially the front nine.

For me, The Witch, followed closely by Farmstead and Heather Glen!

BTW, good topic @s333h, thank you!

I voted Heather Glen.  My order for the others would be Witch, Farmstead, Possum Trots.  Never played IW or WWF.

I picked WW Falcon, but hard not to pick Farmstead.
Being closed for 16 years, we probably have a bunch of MBGT
members who didn't play it.

Heather Glen was a great design, but the super slow greens never
made me look forward to playing there.

I count 10.5 Private Courses, which includes St James and The Dunes.
Only The Dunes is currently accepting package rounds.
Brian can get us on some others, with restrictions.

I count 78.5 Public courses.  The 27 hole courses are counted as 1.5.
This includes Wedgefield, Cape Fear, Compass Pointe, Magnolia Greens
and Bald Head.

I agree concerning the course design but for the speed of the greens i do not remember, i played there many years ago. There was some very good holes . Thanks for the number of golf courses, private and public.

Marsh Harbour Golf Links

Marsh Harbour would be the most missed if all closed courses
were in the list.

@jkh75 Marsh Harbour especially hurts because it wasn't closed for development.

That land is still sitting there unused and there are no plans to develop it that I know of.

I picked Heather Glen -- I never played the Witch (always wanted to) or Indian Wells, though. Out of the ones I've played I think I'd rank them Heather Glen, Possum Trot, Wild Wing Falcon, Farmstead but all were solid courses.

Any regular on this site knows of my fondness for Farmstead.  Always one of the best conditioned courses in MB.  I did enjoy playing Heather Glen, The Witch, and Possum Trot.

@uncgolf

Marsh Harbour was designed by Dan Maples. It was one of the best natural settings of any Myrtle Beach-area golf course. Because no homes have been built on the land yet, the good news is if this land is revived for golfing purposes, this could be turned into an outstanding new layout by a good golf architect. Because of the booming residential development in Myrtle Beach, Marsh Harbour could relived. We never knows...

Heather Glen for me. Only played it once and really enjoyed the layout. Wish I had played it more but never thought it would've closed when it did. Also played Possum Trot that year too.
