We are coming down to the area in a couple of weeks and are staying in Murrells inlet, playing Heritage on Friday, TrueBlue on Saturday and have Prestwick scheduled for Sunday. I've played all these courses before but I'm no 100% sold on playing Prestwick again any other recommendations to replace Prestwick for our Sunday round? We've played Cal and TPC as well in the past.

Since you're staying in Murrells Inlet and have already played Heritage, True Blue, Cal (Caledonia), and TPC, and you're hesitant on repeating Prestwick (a solid Pete Dye design but maybe feeling familiar), here are a few strong Sunday alternatives nearby—mostly 10-30 minutes south or local:

  • Blackmoor Golf Club (Murrells Inlet): Gary Player design right in your area—classic Lowcountry feel with history, oaks, and marsh. Great shape, fun layout, and often praised for value/conditions. Easy drive, no repeat vibes.
  • Wachesaw Plantation East (Murrells Inlet): Clyde Johnston's wooded, rolling Scottish-style track with wetlands and elevation—challenging but scenic. Locals love it as a hidden gem, and it's super convenient.
  • Pawleys Plantation (Pawleys Island, ~15-20 min): Jack Nicklaus design with that famous island green on 18 (echoes Sawgrass). Upscale feel, water everywhere, but rewarding if you want something memorable and different.
  • The Dunes Golf & Beach Club (Myrtle Beach, ~20-25 min north): Classic, highly ranked (often top-tier public/private feel), with ocean views on some holes—timeless and well-maintained.

If you want max convenience and something fresh, I'd lean toward Blackmoor or Wachesaw first. Any of these stand out, or what's your group looking for (tough vs. scenic, budget, etc.)? Enjoy the trip—great lineup so far!

I might be in the minority but Prestwick is a TOP tier course to me. I could play that daily. If you want to replace it with similar course I agree with S333H with his ideas Pawley's and Dunes would be similar courses, I am not a TPC fan at all.

I also agree that Prestwick is one of the top courses in MB.  If you don't mind going into MB proper Grande Dunes is a very good option.

@jsp4433 : I would also stick with Prestwick for the reasons already shared by @jbshepherds and @tadpole!

But just in case, maybe have King's North (recently renovated) in mind! You won't be disappointed!

Have a great trip!"

If you were planning Prestwick because you are flying/driving out afterwards,
it avoids going more south that day.    If it's been awhile since you played
Prestwick, they have renovated some holes with new bulkheads
along the ponds and most reviews comment on fast greens.

Some other central courses like Kings North, Grand Dunes, The Dunes,
are premium if you have not played them.

If cost is an issue, Arrowhead is a good option.

Some groups like to have a top tier course on the last day and some are
OK with a mid tier course, when the group might be too tired to care.

Prestwick is a solid course. In July 2025, they made specific upgrades to holes 10 and 17:

  • Hole 10: A small bunker front-left of the green was filled in and sodded over to eliminate water pooling issues caused by the green's slope during heavy rain.
  • Hole 17 (531-yard par-5): The fairway in the second-shot landing and third-shot approach area (near a left-side creek) was raised by one foot, with drainage and irrigation systems elevated to improve overall dryness and reduce flooding.

@denisgilbert

I agree for Kings North. It could be a great choice also. The renovation done on the course were not superficial—it reworked the strategic framework for more width, multiple shot options, and creativity while preserving iconic features like "The Gambler" (par-5 6th) and the island-green 12th.

Your line up is as solid as can be, Prestwick is a great course with no soft holes IMO.  Would keep what you have, enjoy and enjoy your games.

We decided to switch out Prestwick and we are going to go to Pawleys Plantation since we haven't played it before.

Pawleys has been renovated recently.  It has a unique bridge over a marsh, with tees
for the par 3's #13 + #17, both over the marsh.

All good suggestions.  I would throw Willbrook in there as an option.

You tossed in the Dunes Club; has it become easier to book a starting time there?

The Dunes is about the same for booking.
You normally need a packager to do it.  Brian can do it.
Generally they only book package play Mon-Wed.  Group size limit of 12.

It will be tougher to get as tee time and more expensive around the MB Classic.

Just got back from my trip, we played Heritage Friday Trueblue Saturday and finished with Pawleys Plantation on Sunday. All three courses were in good shape considering early time of yeah pace of play was 4.25 at Heritage and Pawleys with a 5 hour round at TrueBlue all and all a good trip can’t wait for my next trip to the area.
