Good day mates,

8 guys staying in a beach house in Surfside playing 5 rounds of MB golf. Our 22nd annual golf trip. We play golf Monday-Friday. Our arrival into MB is Saturday. No golf Sunday...pool, cook-out and watch football all day.

Monday Day 1: Arrowhead-  (played all 27 holes): Course was near pristine. Best greens of the week!

POP: 2 hours per 9. We played fast and smooth. Course was not overly crowded for a Monday. Would recommend AH for anyone. Awesome fun course.

overall course rating: 9/10

Tuesday Day 2: Glen Dornoch- Course was average condition, not perfect but no major complaints. Greens rolled good but not as fast and smooth as Arrowhead.

GD is fun but the back 9 is damn difficult. Overall course rating: 7.5/10.

Wednesday Day 3: Caledonia-   Caledonia has always and will always be one of my top 3 MB courses. Greens were almost perfect. Fairways almost perfect. Just a great great golf course.

the chowder was on fire and delicious! Overall course rating: 9/10.

Thursday Day 4: Arcadian Shores- Our first time ever playing AS. It was fun and worth playing. Definitely more room to spray the ball off the tee than the three prior courses.

Fairways and rough were a little "hairy". Greens rolled smooth but on the slower side. I'd go back someday. Overall course rating: 7/10.

Friday Day 5: Heritage-   I went to bed feeling really exhausted the night before this round and woke up coughing and sore throat. I did not play the Heritage due to not feeling well. Later that evening I tested positive for Covid. Luckily it was our last day.  The 7 remaining mentioned the course was very good all around. I've played Heritage a few times in the past, always a fun track.

We are already preparing for our next year trip, we would like to set up 5 rounds at courses we have never played, any advise on this list is much appreciated.

The highlighted courses are what we are leaning toward so far....

Aberdeen, Leopards chase, Meadowlands, Myrtlewood (both courses), Sandpiper, Sea trail (all 3), Surf club, Bald head, Burning Ridge, Brunswick, BF Norman, Crow creek, Carolina National, Beechwood.

Thanks Ya'll,

Golface

Sorry about your CV.  Did any others in your group get CV also?

It's always good to check off some never played courses, but you
don't have many top courses in your never played list, so maybe
play 3 never played, a favorite and Heritage if you got a raincheck.

In your never played list:

BEST OPTIONS:
Meadowlands is getting good reviews for conditions.
Crow Creek is forgiving off the tee for a good first day course.
BF Norman is premium, some housing, but good waterway holes.

NEXT LEVEL:
Myrtlewood - MBGT is split on which course is best.

DECENT BUDGET:
Sandpiper - Burning Ridge - Brunswick - Beachwood - Aberdeen

???
Carolina National - Long drive and inconsistent conditions.
Bald Head - Very long drive/day, may be hard to get on, premium course.
Leopards Chase - New greens, needs more time/reports to see if it's improved.
Sea Trail - Inconsistent unreliable conditions.
Surf - Private. Good conditions if you can get on. Not on package now.

Thanks for your report!

@artmbgolf

thanks for the feedback.

I think we will give meadowlands and Crow Creek a shot next year, then figure out 3 other “old reliable” courses we’ve played in the past.

I do have a rain check for Heritage, I’m sure we won’t be playing it next year seeing the other 7 guys just played it this year, I’m willing to donate it to you or anyone else in the MBGT group forum.

Great report. I heard a while back the Bald Head is no longer taking any outside play...members only.

Golf can best be defined as an endless series of tragedies obscured by the occasional miracle.
