Had a 1:30 at MBN West today. Have played Kings North several times and South Creek a few times. First time on the West.

If there were a word for the day, it would be “scruffy”.

Tee boxes were thin in spots with some bare soil on some parts.

Fairways had a few thin and bare spots.

The green surrounds were a mess. Every place near a sprinkler head was completely saturated and muddy. It was like it had rained for the last week straight. Also had grass clippings and thin spots around greens.

The greens themselves were in good shape. A bit on the slow side but rolled pure.

The cart paths were HORRIBLE. Huge cracks and ridges and pot holes everywhere. Call your chiropractor after playing.

Maybe I expected too much after playing the other 2 courses at MBN in the past. West course just seemed ragged and old.

I played here a couple of days later and found it somewhat scruffy but certainly playable. It drained well from the rain the day before.  Greens weren't fast but were consistent. Our only issue was pace of play. Our foursome was off first and we played the front in less than 90 minutes. Made the turn and waited 40 minutes for the double-tee groups to get started; once we started it, the back 9 took 2.5 hours.

One of employees told us they had 621 players on their three courses that day, so a slow pace was to be expected. But so often players get into the mindset that play will be slow and they make no effort to play quickly. Aggravating.

Eventually this will happen to first off fast golfers, during a double tee.
If you like to do that, try single tee courses: Wild Wing, BF Fazio, BF Norman,
MW Palmetto, Lockwood, that have to single tee.

Myrtle Beach National is a very busy place all the year. Like you, i am wondering why they do not repair their cart paths. Their revenues should be enough to pay this investment.
