So my wife and I have been vacationing in PI for 20 years but have never played the actual Pawleys Island Plantation course. Is it as hard as the slope suggests? Is there room off the tee? I need to know this intel before I call big dog Noblin to book some times.n. Thank you, John
Yeah, it's one of the hardest courses on the Grand Strand IMO. There are a few very tight fairways and I'm not sure there are any "bomb & gouge" type holes. That's the one difference between PP and Long Bay (Nicklaus's other Myrtle course). Long Bay gives you some breathing room off the tee on a number of holes but iron play is very demanding. Pawley's penalizes errant tee shots and inexact iron play. While the greens are not small in size, they play small with all the angles & odd shapes. That said, there are a number of great holes on the course and even if it beats you up it's well worth a visit!
PP #13 + #17, with their unique bridge/tees is interesting to see and be on.
They might both cost you a ball, but have generous drop areas.
It will be in my report. 1Putt described the greens.
It may not look + feel like the slope says, compared to playing a Dye course.
They have added front tees, making it short if playing them.

Its a bitch! Play the proper tee
Golf is just an excuse to drink whiskey and smoke cigars
One of the best layouts on the Strand and among the most difficult. Is in our lineup next month too so waiting on a report!
Thank you all for the honest reports. I'm in! Will email birddog soon.
I think if played from proper tees as someone mentioned, it can be a nice course to play.
Let the Big Dawg Bark!!!
Great course - in top 10 for all 7 guys in our group. One of the courses we have played the most as well.

Hard, but fun for sure!
And like others already suggested, select the proper tees to really appreciate your golf experience down there!

The course has many very nice holes, greens for us when we played there always smooth and quick. As some have suggested, play the right tees and you will find it much more playable. Good luck.
thank you all, it's been booked!!!!!!
One of the hardest courses on Grand Strand or anywhere really. If the wind is blowing it is a beotch on top of being a beotch, as previsouly described. Lots of long carries and narrow.
