Coming down from Pittsburgh on Thursday. was going to play at Pinehurst (Legacy) on way in. Don't want to pay $95 for a round after being in car for 8 hours. Any suggestions. Has anyone played Pine Crest in Lumberton? we have been to Cheraw and it was completely dormant and I spoke with them yesterday and it sounds like that again. Not wild about that option either. Looking for decent conditions and not $95.
If you are coming into MB via Hwy. 74/140 then I would suggest either Cape Fear National or Magnolia Greens up towards Wilmington. Check with Brian on the prices.
If you are using Rt 40, guys used to post about River Landing in Wallace, NC.
I haven't played it, so that's all I know. It had good reviews.
Only resort courses will have overseed and their rates will be up this time of the year.

Did play River Landing on a couple of occasions over the last few years and I would recommend without any problem!

How about Bryan Park in Greensboro? 36 holes
I just moved to Salisbury, NC and haven't played either yet, but my new neighbors play a good bit at both Tot Hill in Asheboro and Piney Point, a little west of I-74 in Norwood, NC. I played Tot Hill a long time ago with some of the forum guys and remember having a good time but I have no idea what kind of condition either course is in. I'm guessing you'd see dormant grass at both but the price is better at under $50 on the weekend and under $40 on a weekday. Looks like you could get to Tot Hill in about 7 hours and Piney Point in 8 with 3 hours left to MB from either one.
I'm planning on playing at Piney Point this weekend so too late for a review for you. Good luck!

Which way are you coming in? From Charlotte via 74 or from Raleigh or Greensboro?
Legacy is a really good course when it is in good shape. If coming from Greensboro or Raleigh and you want something in the Pinehurst Area and lower cost you could look at Seven Lakes, Hyland Hills, Foxfire, or Beacon Ridge. If coming down and going through Asheboro, lower cost would be Asheboro County Club and Tot Hill might not be expensive. Tot Hill is very tough. Strantz design so don't look for a warm up there. IF coming down from Raleigh yoiu could stop and the others I mentioned in above for Pinehurst area or for low cost a good layout hit Qual Ridge in Sanford down Hwy 1. They have redone in in the last two years. Maples design and would be a good tune up for Myrtle.
If going down 40 from Raleigh to Wilmington and then down to Myrtle area, check with River Landing first. They had severe flooding in there from Florence. Or go to Magnolia Greens in Leland might be an option.
An hour from MB is CC of South Carolina in Florence - a very nice layout - if you're taking 501 in
Golf is just an excuse to drink whiskey and smoke cigars
