Playing all 3 barefoot courses starting 5/21.  Anyone play them recently and can offer a course condition report?  Also we are staying at the Yacht Club villas...any review on those accommodations?

Thanks!

The Dye Club was in really good shape in March, but I'm guessing you're playing the Fazio/Love/Norman?

We stayed at the Yacht Club Villas the last two years.  They are very good sized and the units are clean.  Some can be a little dated, but you see that all over MB.  Good location.  You can run into traffic going over the bridge to get in and out of them.  Since you're playing the Barefoot Courses you're a stones throw from those so that will work out nicely for you.  There's a fair amount of restaurants in the area but they get busy so you may want to make reservations beforehand.

Is it hard to get on the Dye course? Semi-private? Was thinking of doing a stay and play Dye and which would be the second preferred? Was also thinking of checking out Glen Dornoch since that is not too far away.

I had read all of the hype about the Dye course and when I finally played it I was underwhelmed by the course. I played it 2 more times after that just to make sure.

I am interested in hearing what you have to say. Playing the Love this summer, i have played the Norman and Dye. Norman was to me a great course. Dye i was also underwhelmed, i do want to play it again to make sure i wasnt just having sour grapes playing with my BIL who stinks on easy courses.

Reread my initial post and I should have said We were playing all 4 Barefoot courses.  Good to know the Dye course was in great condition.

I think the Norman probably used to be a really good course, but the condos have kind of ruined it. There are several holes where they're so close it almost feels like they're on the fairway/green -- I specifically remember one par 3 that feels like you're just playing in the common area of a condo complex because they're looming over you everywhere. It's my least favorite of the four, I think both because of the condos and because it just feel like a lesser version of the Reserve to me.

I'd rank them Dye, Fazio, Love, Norman.

@rugbygolf     BF Dye is in the package list, same as other 3 BF courses.
If playing all 4, Brain has a play 3 get 1 free Pkg.

Love + Fazio are next choices.

I feel BF Dye gets more interesting after playing it more.
The BF's are not scenic like TW, Glen Dorn, RE, but not many are.

Don't like Dye - love the other three. Almost always in good condition.

The Barefoots are all good courses and obviously super convenient if you are staying in the Yacht Club Villas.

The Dye has its own clubhouse which makes some think it’s the top course of the four but think that just relates to it’s location. For me it’s Fazio, Love and then a coin flip between Norman and Dye. We played Norman this year for the first time in a while and really enjoyed it.

We’ve stayed at the Yacht Club Villas for the last 10 years or so as we like the location and we get a 4bed/4bath layout that doesn’t have a bad bedroom and plenty of space to relax after a round before heading out to eat. The layouts are identical and often the furnishings are too. Would recommend.

There is a lot of building going on around Barefoot at the moment so it is growing significantly.Putters Pub is a good bar/drinks option if you are staying at Barefoot - nothing fancy but the pizzas are very good and there is pool/darts etc too. We didn’t visit the Marina Bar which is on the Intercoastal Waterway in a great location next to the Marina - food was very average in previous years but it might have improved. Barefoot Landing is a short stroll or drive over the bridge which gives you plenty of restaurant choices.

There’s a small parade of shops when you turn into the Yacht Club Villas that has a really good convenience store called Barefoot Market - stocks all sorts of essentials along with a very decent selection of beers including a walk in beer fridge. They also have a kitchen for eat in or takeaway - very decent pizzas which are a great option if you are having a night in at the Condo. There is also a liquor store that has opened next to the Market that we used for the first time this year - great selection and felt a lot safer than some of the seedy liquor stores we’ve used in the past. No liquor sales on a Sunday in SC so stock up in advance.

Barefoot member here.  Agree with everything stated above.  Frostyjock has it right.  Marina is in a great location and the food is very average, food hasn't improved much IMHO.  Prefer going to Landing and hanging out at Crooked Hammock.

Golf courses - Love is my favorite, Norman is very playable - someone mentioned the condos on some of the holes and that is spot on, but there are several holes that are pretty cool.  Fazio destroys me, I always seem to be in the wrong spots.
