Hi,
Starting planning for a 2026 trip. Playing 4 rounds and think we agree on BF Dye, Grande Dunes and King's North.
Lodging will probably be at Barefoot.

For the 4th course I was thinking of Arrowhead - I've never played there so need some input.

Courses I DON'T want to play since we recently played them - Tidewater, BF Love, BF Norman, Pine Lakes, Legends.

So if not Arrowhead, how about either BF Fazio, Arcadian Shores, World Tour, Man O' War, MBN West, and a little further drive out Prestwick or Thistle?
(Have not played Arcadian Shores, played the rest)
Or any other ones you suggest in the "general" (NOT Caledonia, True Blue, etc) area of BF.

How would you rate these? We always appreciate courses in good conditions and scenic.

Thanks for your help,
   Pete

Arrowhead is a nice course but if you play the wrong tees it can be quite difficult.  Can't go wrong with either Prestwick or Thistle.  Another good choice would be Rivers Edge.

Barefoot Fazio is the best course on your list IMO; I'd play there over Arrowhead especially since you're staying at Barefoot.

The Fazio course isn't on the waterway or anything like that, but it is secluded back in the woods. I don't think there are any condos or houses (if there are it's only on a couple of holes), which is a nice experience compared to most MB courses.

These 3 you picked are great choices:  BF Dye, Grande Dunes, King's North(just renovated).

Of the 2 you have not played, Arrowhead is a better choice than Arcadian Shores.
AH gets good condition reviews and would save around $75-100 over BF, WT, Thistle.

If you pick AH, playing it first since less premium than other 3 or if arrival by plane day.
Would be good to play it last if needing to get to the airport after playing.

In your have played list:  BF Fazio, Prestwick, Thistle, WT are premium rates.
MOW + MBN West are more like warmup courses.

@uncgolf Thanks for your feedback. We played BF Fazio years ago and my memory is it was fairway bunkers on steroids, maybe overdone a bit, though it may be time for us to try it again. Thanks again.

@tadpole Thanks for the feedback - playing the right tees is important. We have mostly seniors in the group so generally bright enough to play from senior tees. Mostly shoot low 80s - low 90s. At home. A little concerned AH might be less fun due to all the water. Though as I recall BF Fazio was your worst nightmare of fairway bunkers.

@psteinhe It does have extremely deep fairway bunkers on some holes, so it's not the easiest course.

I just think from a design standpoint it's the best golf course on your list of potential fourth courses (I think it's a much better course than Grande Dunes too).

Since rates don't matter, think about The Dunes.
Spring rates are extra high there ($300-400) near the MB Classic.
I see you have reported in Sept, so then The Dunes isn't much higher than
your other premium courses.

Normally The Dunes doesn't have package rates + tee times posted more
than 6 months out.
Also they usually only book package rounds on Mon-Wed with max group of 12.

@artmbgolf  actually we’re looking into the Dunes. Love that course - played it a couple of times. Seems like tee times not available yet plus not sure about the extra $300+ but it’s something we might swap in.

@psteinhe The Dunes is the best course in Myrtle Beach, so if you're not concerned about the price you should play it over anything.

I love Arrowhead, played it twice and just loved it both times. I agree play correct set of tees and you will have enjoyable days, Great Proshop, bag drop and cart Girls(Ladies).

@psteinhe: personnally, I wouldn't hesitate at all to add Arrowhead to your already great golf agenda!

Conditions out there are always pristine (I played that course numerous times over the years), and never had anything to complain about!

That said, staff out there is great overall is great and bag drop is probably the most efficient on the Grand Strand!

Have fun when time will come!

Take care!

Arrowhead is a good course and playing all 27 holes there is a treat.  Because you are staying at Barefoot Fazio is a great choice, lots of bunkers but not hidden so you can stay clear of them.  Would suggest you do not play Arcadian Shores, lots of similar looks to the holes and most Par 4's are in the 360 yds. to 380 yds. range, course can put you to sleep as can MBN West and MOW.  Other courses you have mentioned are good places to play.

@uncgolf

The Dunes is widely considered the king of Myrtle Beach by pros, but Caledonia is a close contender and a favorite for its stunning visuals,

packed with massive live oaks draped in Spanish moss, waste areas, and creative routing). I played both and i prefer Caledonia because i like Mike Strantz as a golf architect. However, both are elite golf courses.

.

According to Golfweek's Best Courses You Can Play in South Carolina (2025): Dunes Club is No. 3, Caledonia No. 4 (behind only Kiawah Ocean and Harbour Town).
