My (non-playing) spouse and another couple are thinking about a fall trip. Although my wife does not play, she enjoys riding around the course with me and we have never met resistance from any course where we've asked to do this. The other couple both play, but for health reasons, she is limited to 9 holes at a time.
Two questions: 1) Are there any courses where non-playing riders are absolutely prohibited (so we can take them off our list of "possibles")? and 2) Are there any courses that offer 9-hole rates? I realize the option is always there to pay for 18 and quit after 9 but that is really a last resort if 9-hole rates can be had somewhere.
Many thanks - and it's good to be back.
I don't think any course prohibits a non playing rider.
Some will charge a cart fee ($25-35), especially if your group needs
an extra cart. The odds of a fee are greater at premium courses or
if busy.
You have better odds of a course offering a 9 hole rate if it's a low
to mid course, if it's in the PM, and/or around 3pm.
If only playing 9, WW Hummingbird will have a 9 hole rate.

@artmbgolf Many thanks, Art. Glad to see you are still the lodestar for the rest of

I had a bad back this year for our 54th annual trip. No one charged a fee except Caledonia for me to ride with our other 7 golfers. This was even in the peak season. After the trip I ripped Caledonia and the GM refunded the fee. The courses have no incremental costs so why charge?
