Hello all,

As a longtime Forum member (who mostly reads Posts), I have found this online venue incredibly helpful over the years.

I am now seeking some feedback from our fellow U.K. golfers who visit the Myrtle Beach (MB) area for golf.

I wanted to see what level of interest there might be for a personal, concierge-level travel experience to MB geared toward small groups of golfers (usually no more than a foursome) who desire a turnkey, exceptional golf holiday experience.

This service would supplement those offered by a Course Packager such as Brian by offering luxury accommodations in a centrally-located private townhouse, transportation services to/from the airport, golf courses, selected eating/drinking/entertainment destinations, grocery selection/purchase (including British food favorites), and similar personal attention designed to provide a truly personal and enjoyable golf trip to the Grand Strand.

This is something I had been planning a couple of years ago before the COVID-19 pandemic derailed its progress.

Feel free to respond publicly via the Forum or directly via PM.

Thanks in advance for your participation.

Cheers,

C.K. Dexter Haven

Happy to give some feedback from a 25 trip UK group. I’ll caveat that having been coming to MB since 1994 and booking our trips ourselves an arranged trip wouldn’t be of interest to us.

To be honest I think it would be a difficult business model to make work. There are some pretty big golf trip companies in the UK like Your Golf Travel and Golfbreaks who already offer MB options amongst other US offerings like Arizona and Hilton Head. One of the challenges MB has is that it doesn’t have any courses that have any recognition outside of the US. Golf fans know all about Pinehurst, Pebble Beach, Sawgrass etc and I suspect a lot of UK groups choose venues that have a name course as part of the trip.

A concierge offering with a price to match without a name course would be a tough sell at a time when the exchange rate between the US and UK isn’t great from a UK perspective especially when prices for flights, car hire, accommodation and the golf itself is considerably up on previous years.

I actually think MB needs to be a bit careful about their pricing going forward as while I understand the need to catch up on lost income due to Covid there’s a danger it might have gone a bit too far and while we are committed MB travellers and will be back in 2023 I’d be surprised if many if any new visitors will come from our side of the pond as it currently stands. The US COVID travel restrictions are one reason - there’s no restrictions now to travel to Spain, Portugal and Turkey which would be the main venues for UK travellers with much cheaper flight and accommodation options plus some terrific courses and guaranteed weather. The food is pretty spectacular too.

Sorry if that is a bit negative - happy to answer any follow up questions if you have them.
