Teamed up with UGP today and played the Jones course at Sea Trail against two low single-digit golfers, one of which is a bomber.
Overall the course met expectations and was in good shape. Not as good as Kings Borth but better than many of the lower end tracks. Greens had good turf coverage and putted true. The practice green was slow because they hadn't cut it but the greens on the course had medium speed which took a bit of adjustment. Fairways were also in good shape with healthy overseed coverage. Best part of the course was probably their bunkers which were freshly groomed just prior to our morning round. The only part of the course which needs work is probably the rough areas off the fairway which had a lot of weeds, bare spots and soft areas where the ball can plug. Sea Trail Jones is a fun course to play and has some interesting and challenging holes. I'd return again.
As for the match, it went back and forth with our opponents grabbing the early lead but then we caught fire highlighted by UGPs chip in for birdie on #17 (our 8th hole of the day as we started on the back nine). Then our opponents took the lead again mid-way through the second nine and kept the lead with two holes to go. However on #8 I stuffed a wedge to 18" for birdie and then on the last hole UGP sunk a clutch 12-footer for birdie and the victory. Unfortunately our winnings only came out to one dollar, LOL.
Great report 1p1, I truly enjoyed our day though neither of us played particularly well we did ham and egg pretty good - especially the last two holes. I really like the routing of the Jones course and hadn't been back in a year when I played it with Lefty. A lot of very good holes, and it plays long from the white tees around 6400. I would play this course often if i lived up in the area. The "bomber" had never played it and also really liked it. For those of you who know the course, he hit an iron for his second shot into the par 5 8 and 9 holes and drove to the front of the green on 10. Not as long as Bryan, but well in front of 1p1 and me. With the conditioning having improved this winter I now recommend the Jones course at Sea Trail. And remember - a win is a win no matter what the total is!

There were lots of gators out yesterday. Forgot to mention that. Probably saw more gators than any day at any other course. Pace of play was also good 3:40. No beverage cart.
Thank you both for the update, it is a course i will think about in the future. I do see the baby gator.
Let the Big Dawg Bark!!!
Huge win! Congrats guys!

Huge win! Congrats guys!
Better than a loss. Our poor start was on me as I shanked one into the water and hit two chunks in a row, fortunately it got better after that!

Obviously you have done better at the end. And bombing the golf ball, like your opponent, is not sufficient to win. It seems that your short game has made the difference UGP.

Thanks guys. Glad someone is playing golf.
Congratulations and thanks to you both @1putt1 and @UGP!

Played the course several years ago and enjoyed the lay out. Nothing is better that beating those long knockers!!
Brownwood Bandit
It has many really good holes - when you hit it long, the fairways narrow down. But it's tough for you and me to beat a long hitter that hits it straight and has a good short game. But we soldier on! Helps that 1p1 has a good short game too.

Thanks for the Scoop 1p1.
I know UGP is tough to beat late in the round if it's a tight match.
Sometimes I think he just toys with his opponent , Then , bam, he pimps a hybrid -or in this case a chip shot- to nail his opponent to the flag stick.
Course looks real good.
I played it 8 years ago...but haven't played the other two at Sea Trail.
Thanks again for the report and pictures.

Jw. It was 1p1 that was the pimp master at Jones. His shot at our 17 th hole put us back in the game. So close they gave it to him. When you next come out we’ll put sea trail on our list

Thanks Oneputt for your take on the Jones, a favorite of our group in the winter time. Lots of good holes and price their is always good.
It's good to see that Sea Trail is improving.
The Maples need to catch up with Byrd/Jones.
JW11 now has lots of courses on his 2020 Bucket List.
Thanks!
