I played Wick Stick right after they replaced their greens, OMG never seen greens so HARD. If you hit the green it would bounce so high and go over the back, if you landed it short it would stick and not roll or bounce on. Besides that it had nice routing, never got to play it again. It is now Aldi and housing. I do have 2 shorts from there though.

Your memory of those greens right after they were replaced is spot-on for what a few folks recalled: super firm and fast, especially if they went with a new variety (like Bermuda or something rolled tight post-renovation). That combo of hard greens + bounce-over-the-back if you were even a little hot, but sticking short if you came up cautious, made approach play brutal and unforgiving. It rewarded precise distance control but punished anything off by a club or two—classic risk-reward stuff that fit the course's bold, Daly-inspired vibe.

@artmbgolf Art, you and I played Belle Terre on the final day of operation, it was a good day for not being looked after the course was still fun to play.  If still operating would play it again in a heartbeat.

Belle Terre closed permanently in 2015 to make way for the construction of South Carolina Highway 31, which encroached on and eliminated portions of the property, including nine holes of the executive course. There was also a Championsip course there that i played with Art. Rees Jones was the golf architect of the 2 layouts.

@s333h
              As I posted, I remember playing Belle Terre on it's last day, with
one or both of you and Gary.

While it doesn't much matter now, I think I remember either seeing Rt 31
open or being built when playing Belle Terre.   I never thought
Belle Terre closed due to Rt 31.

@artmbgolf

In the early 2000s, the construction of SC Highway 31 directly encroached on the property. This eliminated nine holes of the executive course outright, and the remaining nine holes of the executive course were closed as a result (around 2004–2005).
The main championship course continued operating for longer but eventually closed permanently in 2015.

I remember that i played the Championship course at Belle Terre with you. I do not know for Gary.

@s333h     Sounds good, like the Belle Terre Exec course stuck out
into Rt 31 area.    Gary posted that he played with me on the last day.

I tried to find my 2015 trip report, but the trip reports folder only
goes back 20 pages, which ends in 2019.

@artmbgolf Think you are right Art, Belle Terre closed so housing could be built, seems to be a trend for every course closure.  When we played they had finished Hwy. 31 to Hwy. 544, believe it opened in 2005, never impacted on the course.

You know I did enjoy playing the Witch, played there a couple times. Never was able to take my daughter. Played some great rounds there and biggest turn arounds fron one 9 to another. I did enjoy playing it though, a lot.

Many great choices and memories.  Out of the list, Marsh Harbour was my favorite.  After that, Heather Glen.  I was fortunate enough to have played all 27 on the day of closing.  After that, The Witch.  What a cool and unique design for the area.

Farmstead...yep, wish that was still open.

Angel's Trace North & South were good.  I remember sinking about a 120 ft putt as they had some massive greens.

Brierwood...it was golf.  😀

Marsh Harbour is the one I miss the most. # 17 was a unique hole and really challenging. Sad to see the property just sitting there.
