Day 3 of the forum outing is unfortunately my last.  I have to miss Cape Fear tomorrow, however the day dawned bright and clear (although a bit brisk), and after a final breakfast at the Caravelle (which was great to stay at again), we checked out and headed for Arcadian Shores, which I had never played before.

#2 is a great par 3 with lots of tee boxes of to the right which really change the hole.

The course is really close to the Caravelle, and the bag drop was very efficient.  There were 23 of us today, and I was grouped with Gary C, Bob W (once again) and Rich P.  The company was great, the day was good, and with the exception of a single birdie by Rich, none of us did very much.  We went off of the back nine to start, and I shot a 46-42 for an 88, which ended up tying Jeff, so he won the series 5-4-2 to take the title and the bragging rights that go with it (that’s the only prize).

Arcadian Shores was by far on the low side of the courses I played this past week (11.5 rounds in 8 days), and was pleased by the course layout, which is actually pretty good.  The greens were in good shape, although very, very slow which made putting difficult as I had been playing on fast greens all week.  They had also over-seeded the fronts of the greens, so there was no chance of rolling the ball up onto the green, you had to fly it there.  The only other item that made the course harder to play were the thin fairways.  I found it almost impossible, as did others in my group, to hit a solid shot off of the fairways.  With very little grass, it took nothing for the shot to be a bit fat and the ball would not fly to the green (or wherever else I wanted it to go).  There were some great looking holes and the course was quite busy.  All in all, I was glad to have finally played it.

#11, long par 4 (they are all long it seemed)

Jeff and I spent the afternoon doing a bit of shopping (golf shoes, outlet centers, etc.) before heading back to the Caravelle for the Forum Outing Party.  A well attended event, there was about 40 of us in total, and all seemed to have a great time.  The pizza and wings were great, and Brian is such a gracious host.  It was also good to see Rich (owns the Golfdesk) drop by as I had not seen him for a few years.  The party was winding down, and Jeff and I headed North around 9pm, getting to Fredericksburg, VA around 3am.  We then took off around 9am Sunday and made it home for a late dinner at 7pm.

It sounded like the group had a great time at Cape Fear (according to Yank’s post in the forum), and I am sorry we missed it.  I will have to catch it another time.

Thanks to everyone who came out, it was great seeing some old friends, and a chance to meet some new ones.  See you on the forum!
